I just got my hands on one of these cards, but unfortunately it didn't come with the daughter board that contains the Sega Saturn controller ports. The daughter board connects to 2 10-pin spots on the main board that obviously map to the 9-pins on the sega saturn controller port, so I'm wondering if anybody would know the pinout on the board so I could make my own daughter board? Failing that, would anybody have a daughter board they don't want anymore that they'd be willing to sell?
Does this board have the same chips as a real saturn? If so, why not use the saturn schematics and a multimeter to match which pins lead to which? Link to part of the schematic that you need: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/28488139/Conjunto PCI VA 13_08.pdf You want pins 40 - 46 for P2 and 33 to 39 for P1 on the SMPC (chip should be 315-5744), the other 2 are VCC and GND. If its not like a saturn, then please ignore me
Nm, googled a picture of the card. you could just work out VCC and ground, then work out the others by trial and error. Its active low (so Ground = pressed), find each pin does by connecting to ground and then match to the connector.
That's what I figured. The saturn does some weird multiplexing across a few channels, though, which could be annoying. I was hoping someone had already done the work, ha.
Directions arent, that leaves you will 3 connections to work out by just trying all the combinations. not ideal, but shouldnt take you long to figure out
It's not like a Saturn http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NV1 Although it could have ended up being like a Dreamcast http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NV2
I found a photo of the daughter board here where I can see where a few traces are running. The port on the NV1 video card labels the first pin, and there are 10 pins (while the saturn controller uses 9) so the 10th should be useless. indeed, it looks like nothing runs to it. Now, looking at a pinout of the saturn pad, pin 9 is the ground, and I can clearly see the 9th pin on the NV1 port being grounded. If I'm lucky, they'll just follow the pinout of the saturn pad 1:1, which is what I'll start out with. When I'm all done, I'll post the results, btw. I can find lots of forum posts from various places asking about this stuff, but no one has posted the answer. It'd be a good resource to have online IMO. EDIT: Since people in here seem to have some experience with the board, does anybody know if it can be used as a dedicated 2D card with a 3D accelerator? I.E. can I have my NV1 as the main video card, and attach a voodoo card in another PCI slot and link them together? Then just choose which drivers I want to use for which games (either GLIDE or NV1)?
I remember having both NV1 and 3DFX Voodoo 1 at the same time, but can't remember if in the same PC. I know that's not really helpful. Only game I liked on it was Toshinden.
I'm waiting on a voodoo card to arrive in the mail. In the next few weeks I should be able to hopefully provide some info for this topic about if you can use an NV1 as your 2D card in a voodoo setup, as well as figuring out the pinout.
