Interesting article on new handheld from nvidia - not sure if its old news... http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/05/14/us-nvidia-shield-idUSBRE94D0IP20130514 http://allthingsd.com/20130514/nvidia-details-shield-its-349-android-game-console $350 USD feel expensive.....though compared to a phone it's not....but for a handheld games machine... Is the market wanting one?.....Vita etc...
Yes, it is old news and Tegra 4 sucks, especially for 350 bucks. Every current-gen high-end soc like ARM Mali T604 (Nexus 10) and PowerVR 544 (Tri Core @ Samsung Galaxy S4 and of course Quad Core @ iPad4) is faster and outperformed the Tegra4 even before Tegra4 is released within a device to the market. Also the slightly older Qualcomm Adreno 320 (for example: Nexus 4, HTC Droid DNA, LG Optimus G and Sony Xperia Z) is almost on par with Tegra 4... When it comes to mobile chipsets, dont think about nVIDIA like with the desktop GPU's.
Yup, I won't drop $350 on a handheld. My NDS/PSPs didn't get enough play. What can this do that my android phone with a controller can't do anyways?
IT CAN STREAM GAMES Gimmicky. If I was looking to play PC games I'd play them in full resolution on a full sized monitor in a comfortable position, so as to not ruin my eyes and have hand cramps, etc. My vita fulfills my need for mobile gaming just fine, and on the odd chance I want to play a casual game I have my phone. Only use, if I have the cash or find a good deal is that it would be a great emulating handheld. So far there isn't many Android based devices optimized for gaming, especially with a controller-like design and powerful mobile hardware.
