Obscure is an excellent survival horror game that succeeds in being scary without the claret seen in such games as Resident Evil 4 and The Suffering, making it a fine choice for curious parents. The best part is, you can play it with a friend/sibling right away. This is rather unique in my opinion, since a lot of other games don't have this feature.:shrug: The object of the game is to find your missing friend Kenny in a large school that is now infested with strange monsters that are surrounded by a type of protective halo. You can control 2 of the 5 main characters at once (Ashley, Shannon, Josh, Stan and Kenny) or have them wait in a safe area. There's also a sixth student called Dan who can be controlled very briefly. You can change characters at the gathering point. There's even an option to go back there right away. Standard weapons include a metal rod and a pistol, but you'll find more effective weapons as you progress. You can tape a torch to a gun for extra protection as the monsters are weakened by the light. You save using special discs which you can use right away. There are a lot of these though. You can reload anytime you want as well, making for a true horror feel. Healing items seem plentiful at first, but they soon become increasingly rare. In my opinion, Obscure is one of the most inspirational horror games ever made, along the lines of Alone in the Dark, Silent Hill 3 and Resident Evil. Highly recommended for a rainy day. It's probably the best £20 game around. :thumbsup:
Obsure was pretty neat for being $20. It was pretty short but was a fun when I played through it with some friends. And the fact that the characters can die and the game keeps going is a big plus.
There's an Obscure 2 on the way. However no preview is available yet. I'm sure it will be good though.
