Seems the people at Oculus Rift are throwing lawsuits at those who run oculusrift.com

Think this is because they are now very much in bed with Microsoft? From what it looks like, OR will probably win this one, even if it is settled out of court.

Either way, it's kinda surprising as this is pretty much a slap in the face to those who were using the site to develop different things for the OR. Not a good way to make fans and those supporting the OR like you very much.

O-R is dead in the water...
It'll end up in the same fate as Ouya, because everyone can get a dev kit, it's reputation is tarnished even before release

Why is it bad that everyone could get a dev kit? I would think that would be a good thing as it allows more accessibility you know?

Even if it causes more crappy games to be released, those would get pushed aside by the actual good ones that come out of it.

It's easy to blame the ruthless and greedy company for throwing lawsuits at the little guy who is only working for the greater good. However, this is a standard UDRP action for a seemingly clear cut case of trademark infringement. Oculus VR developed the product, paid for the trademark and invested a lot of money in building the Oculus Rift brand name. Therefore, they want the domain name to promote and sell thier flagship trademarked product. They tried to get the domain back from Smirnov in the past without success, so they took action. I think that Sony, Apple, Nintendo, Google, Sega, Capcom and any other company with a valuable brand name would do the same thing to a cybersquatter. In practice Oculus VR was very fair (maybe even lax) in the way they handled this situation. Most companies would have crushed this guy before anybody even heard about it.

"Smirnov says he’d asked for $58,000 in exchange for the domain, but Oculus’s lawyers turned down the offer."
The fact the the current owner of the domain asked for this astronomical amount, puts this whole story in a different perspective.
