I'm currently going over some old digital recordings of my brother and I goofing around in Super Mario Bros. 3, searching for random glitches. I did stumble upon one I never could replicate and was wondering if anyone else had something similar happen to them. The game was played on a model 1 NES and I am 99% sure there wasn't a hardware or dirty contact issue because I play it often and keep everything clean. The odd thing, other than the bricks turning into a flickering color, is the fact that the star falls underneath the prize box instead of leaping out from the top. My only clues on what the cause might be are the de-powering/powering up of Mario and collision detection. Here is a video of that run. https://www.dropbox.com/s/694uh18n9mgev2w/SMB3(World2Glitch)10282006-0931AM.avi
I had a glitch like this once in 2 player mode on same system with my buddy's system. I was player 2. It happened on 4-1 I think... The bricks just started flickering when I grabbed the super star and normalized when over. Never got it to repeat again.
