Sound but no video? I can't promise that this is your problem, but typically that indicates your TV and the cable don't agree on how to use the blanking signal on pin 16 of the SCART connector. Some televisions will see that there's RGB and no composite signal and switch automatically, but many require voltage on that pin so that they no switch. You shouldn't have to convert from SECAM, since that's unrelated to the transmission of RGB.

I've never heard of a game console that outputs SECAM. Huh, news to me.

I have checked, and this cable is RGB wired, not composite so I don't imagine any problems with PAL/SECAM.

Have you tried plugging them into every SCART socket on your TV? If the cables are wired solely to do RGB, then you may have issues if only one socket is wired up for it.

What kind of TV are you using?

EDIT: Apparently, there is a difference - see Simonbelmont2's post below.

They were mostly released in france I think, been reading games which say "only for use on pal/secam systems" for as long as I can remember. It's been their television standard for aages, I think they're planning to have it abandoned by the end of this year iirc.

I stand corrected - there *is* a difference in the cable! Good work, Simon!

Hi guys, I know, I'm late, but since I recently subscribed to this board, I can bring some answers about this video cable :

    - it's a special RGB cable designed for used with SECAM TVs, it only works with special Mega Drive I (and Master System) produced for French market (these Mega Drive have "Mega Drive RGB" as model name on the sticker).
    - so, yes, there are at least 3 diffferent Mega Drive/Genesis families in the world : NTSC, PAL-x, and RGB.
    - "Mega Drive RGB" and 3085 RGB cable are using pin SYNC, instead of pin COMP for synchro, this is the reason why this cable does not work with other MDs.
    - as shown on the tuto linked previously (I'm the author FYI), the 3085 cable can work with PAL and NTSC MDs thank to a very simple mod. This cable is probably the best one to use with MDs, since all signals are optimized, and it has auto-commutation to AV-in.

Just got one of these in today, so I'm glad you took the time to write that tutorial... ^^

Just need to find a tidy way to add stereo sound to the thing now.

I'll try to add a 3.5mm phono socket to the box on the cable if I can find a spare wire going to the scart connector.

Thank you, I was really happy when I discovered this trick, since I own several Mega Drive from different countries ! :)

Picking the stereo audio from the front jack to the scart plug is really easy, made by many gamers. But I wouldn't do it, since I've noticed a very strong reverse current from the TVs on a similar mod for my Vogatek Supergun, making my PCBs overheat !
