When the Sm4sh editions came out, I bought both brand new from Japan for $21. Now their value quadrupled, it's insane. Evem both my keyboard controllers are now worth double the price I paid for them. The GC controller is by far the longest standing controller out there, and with Smash 5 coming on this year and the GC adapter working on the Switch we might get a new batch - I'll definitely buy a few more.
Nintendo would only make 5 since they suck at producing anything. I'm sure the scalpers would get them.
What I don't understand is why even used Smash GC controllers are more expensive than other official controllers - even the Wavebird! Is it just because it has the Smash Bros. logo on it? Other than that, there's no advantage at all to using those controllers - unless you buy a new one, which are ridiculously expensive. They've managed to do a pretty good job of keeping up with the demand for the Switch, at least after the initial launch. They're easy to find.
They’ve done a good job at keeping the switch stocked yes. Certain amiibos, accessories , NES and SNES classic, not so much. Their Animal Crossing Amiibo stock is on point tho >.>
The smash market is good for another 25 years. Real unused controllers will just go up and up and up. Always worth buying in bulk.
Glad I got my Smash 4 GC controller when I did. Bought it brand new at GameStop a few years back. I really like the longer cable. It isn't just controllers, lots of GC stuff is suffering from price gouging. Controllers, component cables (which can be replicated for under $60 now), consoles, and even the Broadband Adapter which is useless to most people unless you want to do Mario Kart: Double Dash!! LAN parties. How many people you know actually do that? At least the 56K modem isn't being scalped... This price gouging on Nintendo stuff is getting out of hand. To scalpers everywhere: this stuff isn't gold so cut the crap. If you want to do this, go after stuff that has real value like actual gold.
The way I see it, A chunk of gold is boring... Nintendo stuff is entertaining. Seriously though, I think it’s just because everyone who had a GameCube has a job and money now and can afford to re-buy this stuff or buy what they missed out on. I realized just how old the Gamecube (and myself) is getting when I was talking with the kids at work and they’d never heard of gamecube cuz they’re born in 2001 or 02. Gamecube is becoming the new “cool” retro console, and probably will be for awhile. Cuz I can’t imagine very many people having fond memories of the Wii ._. And no one bought a Wii U
I bought the Wind Waker HD bundle at full price back in 2014. I haven't regretted it since. The gamepad actually works and is surprisingly comfortable. Nice thing about it is that it has a Wii sensor bar built in. The battery life isn't great but Nintendo did release a high capacity battery for it. A lower price is always a plus though lol!
Try getting the high capacity battery now without paying through the nose. Nintendo has become terrible at supply and demand in recent years. I know everyone points to the switch, but Nintendo burned me too many times and I won’t be purchasing a switch.
I noticed the prices shooting up right after the Smash adapter was released. Then suddenly old and used Gamecube controllers became current again.
The high capacity battery was sold at retail price on Nintendo's US store for a while. I wish I bought one when they were listed.
