Oracle is taking over Java for the Mac. I tried searching for the preview 7, but it must of been pulled. I have it installed, there was a 32-bit and a 64-bit. Both required Lion, maybe that's why I can't find it now. :/

I did find a preview of JDK7 for the Mac. Here is the link preview.

The Mac can do almost anything the PC can do. The exception is games. One there are more games for the PC and two the run faster on a PC with a better video card (Macs use a mobile version of video cards.). However some people have installed Windows 7 (using Bootcamp) and get almost the same frame rates as a PC, it depends on the game.

I've found that I would never go for a Mac only solution, money permitting. I really like MacBook - the design, screens and trackpads are better than any cheaper Windows options, same goes for the iMac, but I've found when I've only had a Mac that there will always be something lacking that I require in terms of functionality, even after a Bootcamp installation.

I would say a Windows desktop PC and MacBook is the ideal solution, if you can afford it.

If you're looking for a great News feed reader check out Mixtab http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/mixtab/id438373717?mt=12

It's in the Appstore, free and absolutely fantastic. It's rare I stick something in my system start up preferences but I had to make an exception for this.

I would consider a macbook Air since similar ultrabooks are actually more expensive (for now)

Anyways, a MBP? son I have killed little kids for candy, but what you just did its one major fuckup, and I feel uncomfortable knowing we are in the same forum...

J/k, cant you return it? what about selling?

TBH macbooks are solid for midend stuff, but if you are on CS and need to have a lot of stuff running at the same time, like dual monitors with compilers, PDFs (manuals, guides) and browsers, then better sell it and get a nice 15 inch laptop with a quadcore i7.

Right now you can get one with 8GB of RAM for half the price of a 13inch MBP.

I'm thinking about getting a ROC instead of a new rig, its almost the same price and I get a highend GPU and everything, sans the bigass tower with the fucking turbine fans that blast through any sound insulation. Let alone I can take it with me during trips and LANs, that last case without having to do multiple trips to my car to load all the shit.

The thing is: a friend of mine had problems with his Mac, he went to a Mac store and the clerk told him to buy a protection plan because that way the repair costs him nothing and without the plan the rapair would have been more than the costs of the plan itself. That's it.

Note: he bought the plan AFTER the problems arose.

You do know, that you can choose all MBP models with an i7 CPU?. In the 13" its the i7 Dual Core 2,8GHz and in the 15" and 17" MBP its the 2,4 GHz QuadCore. Also if you compare the prices to really good notebooks like the Lenovo Thinkpad T-series you will notice that the prices are almost equal.

Macbooks perform the same as every other Notebook with the same specs. Buy enough RAM and a SSD for very good performance.

im acctuly really happy with the MBP. dedicated graphics would be nice but what ever its not my main machine. for what i use it for its far past what i need spec wise. (mainly becuse i only use a portable for web, word processing and a little bit of coding). when i was choosing i was tied between the lenovo t420 and the mbp. what won it for me in the end was that osx is basicly linux with real world support + i wanted to try something new

Duh! yeah I know, but did you look at the price? almost $2K! you could get almost THREE quadcore laptops for that amount...

And of course a macbook is going to perform the same than a laptop with the same specs, we're talking about price here.

I think Lenovos are overprices just like Macbooks. Buy Asus and get more value for your money.

Lenovo are absolutely rock solid. Asus are good but are beginning to near the Apple danger zone (see the Macbook air type laptop they've created)

That's funny, cause I've had my Asus laptop for almost 2 years now (means it's running out of warranty soon...that's when these things always break) without a single problem.
Now, my last laptop was an Acer, and that thing only lasted a few months before completely dying and having to be repaired

You do IT right? Surely you should know Acer make horrendous quality laptops?

The laptop I had for about a year before I had my HP laptop that lasted 4 years was Acer and was only taken around in a padded bag and picked up damage that way, my HP ended up taking damage the same way (two different brands, one was a Targus laptop bag and another was a non branded one with ALOT of padding.

It's one of the things im not looking forward to about my work experience placement. I couldn't get one in Film and TV production so instead got one in computer repair, Acer laptops are really popular around here (despite how crap they are) and with their build quality I expect to see alot of them if they actually alot me to work on computers.

I've got two Apple machines, a 2004 eMac, which I don't use regularly but works perfectly, and a MacBook Pro from 2006, the first Core Duo model, which works like the first day.

Two things I really, really like from Apple computers, whatever people ever says, is the sound quality through both audio in and out, screen quality and sharpness and the durability of the machines. I don't know about the newer ones, but the one's I've gone by and others I've tried but don't own (Power Macintosh's mostly) are exactly the same.

The newer iMac seems a tad bit too much fragile to me.
