For fuck sakes...did they not see that shitstain remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still (or any other movie he was in)? Who the fuck seriously thinks he's talented? That's like thinking that George Lucas and Uwe Boell are talented directors...
Excuse me for bringing this up but you can't really put that useless crap of a director Uwe Boell in the same league as George Lucas. Sure Lucas isn't the best but at least his films are watchable unlike the shit that Uwe puts out. Yakumo
I'm kind of stumped by this remark too. Lucas might not be your cup of tea, but the majority of his work has a cult following around the globe! My son is 5 and knows who he is and loves Star Wars too bits! If you prefer something a bit avant-garde then 'THX1138' is an outstanding film, with one of the best car chase scenes I've ever seen. 'American Graffiti' is also a superb film and really captures the essence of an era perfectly. Can't really see how Boell and Lucas are being lumped together nor that Lucas is being picked off as untalented. It seems to me that he is actually seriously talented, albeit does make films that are a little thin in storyline content. The films are very evocative and gripping. He certainly knows how to build tension and create a pace. Another thing he is good at is letting his cast work, which is a sign of a good director. The cast actually deliver great performances! I'm not such a huge fan of the later Star Wars films, but the originals are amazing in my view and given their age and their watch ability even now by comparison to a lot of other material produced at roughly the same time, I think Lucas did an incredible job. Way ahead of anyone else at that point and we just wouldn't have the same sci-fi and action films, CGI or audio from films without Lucas.
*ahem* NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
If Lucas is merely producing and tossing ideas around (that others polish), I have no problem with him...it's when he has a heavy hand in a movie that I feel it goes to hell. Ep. 4 was a bit dry, but there was a story to it and the special effects were props to the story. Eps. 5 & 6 were his ideas for the story were spun and polished by others (story only for Ep. 5 and story and screenplay co-write in Ep. 6) and directed by others (Irvin Kershner for Ep. 5 and [/color] Richard Marquand for Ep. 6). Eps. 1-3 becomes a different story. Written/directed by George Lucas (co-writer in Ep. 2). Too much blue/greenscreen and dialogue attrocious to a Matrix Trilogy level at points (particularly the love scenes in Ep. 3). The pacing was also very awkward with Ep. 1 feeling too streched out and the other two episodes compressed to fit into the desired sequence of events leading to the fall of the Republic (the whole Anakin becoming a Sith scene was awful and was "here I am...OK, it's done" with no real emphasis on that turning point). Lucas also seemed to have pissed off at least some of the people in his CG department particularly with the Yoda fight scene in episode 2. I found THX-1138 to be a bit longer than needed (maybe just the pacing of the first part of the film), but this was also Lucas' feature-length directorial debut. Would it have made anyone feel better if I had mentioned Michael Bay (whom I feel is another person who should never have any part in cinema again) instead of George Lucas? Back to Keanu as Spike, I was disappointed with that since the movie was just a rumor and there was an article saying he would be interested in the part of Spike. Way to go American Cinema... *Note: Any comments I have made in this thread are nothing more than my opinion and should not be considered anything else.
C'mon you miserly bastards, he was great in Bill and Ted. Ever since he's basically played one wooden role, admittedly. Here's my impression: Frowns.
i ranted to my dad the other day about all the remakes being made. in regards to the Karate Kid remake. I hate that they're remaking the Karate Kid. Why can't they just make a movie, about a kid, who does karate and don't use the name "Karate Kid"? Why do they have to do that? Just make a similar movie but don't use the SAME name! I swear, there are like 4 people in Hollywood with original ideas these days. Everything coming out is either based on something (comic, a book, play, tv series etc), a sequel, a movie we've seen a million times before (mainly terrible comedies) or an effing remake.
Speaking of live action anime, whatever happened to that Evangelion movie? I heard the guy who played Frodo in LOTR was going to be Shinji, and a lot of other crap, like Hermione (sp?) from the Harry Potter series was going to be Asuka. That movie's been in development hell for eons.
