I got an email from a person interested in my real ebay auction. They have zero feedback. Now the only thing I found weird about this question is that they are asking for how much shipping is to New Jersey, when the shipping price I have is for the USA. Now either the 'potential buyer' is a dumba** or something is fishy. I went to MyEbay page and for every question I get from an ebay member, I get it there and I don't see this question in my inbox whatsoever. Now, I look at the email I receive much more closely. I hover my mouse over the 'respond now' button and I get this link (don't click it): http://orsi.ouc.edu.cn:8081/signin1.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.php?MfcISAPICommand=RedirAsk&siteid=0&co_partnerId=2&UsingSSL=1&ru=&pp=&pa1=&pa2=&pa3=&i1=-1&pageType=-1&userid=rac4446&email=mdhtter286@yahoo.com Notice how the first part of it is in bold? So its obvious the site is phishing scam. SO, be careful! If you're selling something check with your 'myebay' page for any questions you might recieve. Do not trust your email account. It was obvious that this email was generated by an actual person who browses through ebay (most likely at a cyber-sweatshop) to make you think it is a legitimate ebay email because it includes your actual auction title! These bastards are getting good now that images attached to email will not get picked up by anti-spamming algorithms. This is why you might have noticed more and more spam lately. SO BE CAREFUL!! This is the first time I got one of these..
This just serves to remind people to check the links in official-looking e-mails! I can type in any URL I like in the text, but have the true URL link to something malicious.
Another thing is that you shouldn't have your email address as your ebay account name. By having it double as your name they know where to send the email to, but otherwise they have no way to do so.
I've been getting tons of spam in my messages box on ebay, always the same chinese company wanting to be my friend and interrest me in wholesale etc.
I have simple principle. I don't even open e-mails from unknown sender. I delete 'em right away. Simple as that! Same applies to SMS and what not! I delete 'em without reading/open. I figure if it's important they are going to contact me in other way anyway...
Simple solution, hit delete! I tend to have my auctions as UK only. If they are abroad then I get the odd thing on typical items such as PS2 auctions. You can spot these guys with their odd eBay names and the type of questions being asked. What's more irritating is the high volume of zero rated time-wasters who use BIN and then you never hear from them again!
I have received spam from those chinese scammers too. They just keep creating new accounts to send those stupid mails.
Title of the thread has now been edited  Although, I think fucking anything is deserved when these rip off bastards try to cheat us out of or money. It happened to me a few years back with bloody Nigerians. Yakumo
Yakumo: that wouldn't be the US note covered in black ink or what not? ^__^ I got a nice letter from someone in Spain that I won big and all I needed to do was paying for my winning money from my bank account - say what...?! @_@ I forwarded the letter and all to our federal police though don't think they could do anything about it...
Nah, it wasn't that. It was a Paypal effort. They ordered loads of stuff which they paid for. The stuff was sent then a few days later those pricks at Paypal refunded the money without any just cause. It was the same old story of the buyer is right and the seller is wrong. Yakumo
DO NOT delete these. If you do, they go on to spam some poor sucker. REPORT IT! Forward the message with FULL header to your local ebay spoof department. In the UK it is spoof@ebay.co.uk Madhatter, are you sure this referenced your specific item? This is a common, automated spoof. It'll say dear eBay user or something, NOT your user ID. Yes, they've made them look almost identical for years now. But they'll always say something like they want to buy an item, or why haven't you replied? blah blah. I thought eBay didn't do a lot when you reported things. Then I got a spam through the my eBay system. They commented on my item for sale, but it was some Hong Kong company trying to sell me electronics via their website! Totally against eBay policy. So I reported it. Next thing I know, eBay write back thanking me for the report and telling me not to do any deals with this person. PLUS, at the top of my eBay messages page, there's a highlighted WARNING e-mail from eBay, sent to everyone that member communicated with, warning them of the dangers of outside trading. Pretty impressive, I thought!
