When replying to a thread by toubabokoomi I noticed the lace licorice type candy in it, and it got me to thinking of all the different candys I used to eat back when I was a kid. Like the old-style taffy that you froze before eating, or the little candy dots on strings of paper. Those ones are still around (I think) but their are others that have been discontinued (or at least available by special order only).

Now this is where I ask a question: Their are two candies from the late 80's - early 90's that i'd like to see if I can find again, but the problem is I don't remember their names. The first one was sold in grocery stores (in the same place as gushers, shark bytes, etc.) and contained packages of space related gummies in the shape of things like meteroites (which I remember distinctly as they burned my mouth). The other was a lollipop that was flat and transparent, which contained an image of a random alien'ish creature in it. Beyond the above descriptions I don't remember anything about them except they were my favorite candies back when I was able to find them.

So anyone remember either of these two candies names, or at least have some other info to go on?

Oh, and feel free to talk about the kind of candies you remember from back-in-the-day which were real treats back before having jobs/cars/houses or money of your own.

While I couldn't help you, Fabrizo, here's some info. If you guys happen to travel to any third world country, you might still be able to find some of these candies in their preserved forms.

Some might even date back to 1989...

Wow, I thought no one here would ever talk about the old Kinder! Ahh my childhood days in France, my favorite candy/chocolate! I think they are still being sold there.

This brings back so many memories! :icon_bigg

Hehe I have a shop in oxford that sells those slabs of imported kinder chocolate. That is only for the most severe work crisis, though. Otherwise I would pile on the pounds daily as well as lose too many from my wallet.

Seriously as chocolate goes, that is the best. When I was in Japan I really missed proper chocolate like that - I had my mates send over a big box in desperation. Turned up mostly melted! So sad...

My favourites back in the day -- and which I actually looked forward to trips to the U.S. for -- were Ferrara Pan (sp?) brand candies, like Johnny Apple Treats, Lemon Head, Cherry Clan, etc. They were so good, had a strong flavour, and remind me of holiday camping trips.

Another that I loved, but seemed to have gotten discontinued in the early 1990s were Flip-Flops. They were a powdery disk-like candy, like SweetTarts, but they had a flavour on each side of the disk. Like Blueberry/Raspberry, and Strawberry/Pineapple. They had a good kick to them. Sigh...

Never heard of those alien candies. I was always more of a caramel/toffee/Milk Duds person myself.

You guys don't get oreos over there? That's just sad...

I've got a shop by my house called "All Things UK", they basicly sell imported foods from the UK. Never been in there though...

Heh, my mistake was eating a chocolate bar without looking at the expiration date. After consuming, I immediatley spat it out. On the back was an expiration date of 1999 (This was summer 05' BTW).

I sure miss the old 3 Musketeers, as these new ones taste a tad different from what I remember back then...
