This you guys was so helpful in helping me track down Philosoma for the PS1, I figured maybe you could help me with another game. I have a friend who is searching for an old game she played on the PC in the early 90s. She doesn't really remember if it was a DOS or just a Windows game or whatever. Just that it was on a PC. Here is the description she gave me (Translated as well as I could) It's a game about a green guy that runs around shotting, it's a 2D sidescroller with very cool music, resembling rock. The name of the game had a "Z" in it somewhere. She says she got it on a CD with 100 shareware games. And no. It's not Jazz Jackrabbit. That was my first guys as well. Although, she says that the game was probably inspired by Jazz. I have tried searching high and low on the internet, browsing throgh lists of Sidescrollers, platformers and shooters for the PC but without much luck. If anyone has any good guesses. Please, do tell, as I seem to have hit a brick wall here ^^; Thanks guys .
Uhhh zounds like zool man, he is green and its a 2d sidescroller with awesome music:-d -- maybe not, but just was looking around and saw it
cant think of anything with a green guy, 2d shooter makes me think abuse but the guy aint green. commander keen was pink i think? and duke nukem was duke nukem coloured
Xargon? (has a Z sound to it, and was on loads of shareware cds). the music was kind of rockish, for an adlib soundcard I'll see if I can think of any more. I used to play loads of dos shareware platformers in the early and mid 90s and had several shareware collection cds (don't have them anymore). Any more details? IE: was the character a seriously drawn human (a la xargon or abuse), or a goofy cartoon character (a la Jazz or zool), or something in between (duke nukem, commander keen)
The 'z' could be a red herring since the title might have been localized. Not too likely, but possbile. Just sayin'. Anything else to go on? Every bit helps. The theme of the game would be the most useful, I think. i.e. was the general look-and-feel of the game medieval, sci-fi, sth. like that. Maybe she remembers if "the green guy" was an alien, a monster, a robot, or maybe a dog in a green pyjama. The "maybe inspired by Jazz" line, as well as the mentioning of shooting at (instead of jumping on) things leads me to believe it's relatively fast paced? Full-on side view (think Commander Keen) or this weird tilted quasi-3D view some games like Keen Dreams had? Edit: I was randomly watching a Monster Bash review just now, and noticed the guy from Bio Menace in the intro. He happens to be wearing a green shirt, and has a gun. Maybe...?
http://www.3drealms.com/menace/ bio menace has been released as freeware as have some other older apogee games. also some team17 ones too
She says that the health bar is illustrated by a pair of eyes that gets more and more blood shot as you take damage.
