I, like many others, discovered Assembler whilst looking for info on obscure consoles many years ago, roarvgm iirc. It's a shame that the old site isn't up anymore, I know there's been talks of wikis etc, but I'm unsure what the status is. My mind may be playing tricks on me with regards to even a new site being built. As another point, after the thread on donoring this year, I got thinking about ways to potentially bring more revenue to the site and community, one such idea was to reinstate the museum site, albeit rewritten in a standardised application with tokenised API for data. Why? Simple: apps. Whilst considering the flood of tablets making their way to consumers, both iOS and Android being primary targets, what if there was an Assemblergames app which was like the bible of obscure computing, feeding off the site's data down to a native client? I think it could potentially get some pretty decent revenue in (and no, for UK residents, please no comparisons to the latest episode of The Apprentice ;-) ) given how accessible it would be in any given app store. It's just an idea to bounce around at the moment, I have a lot of experience of web services, creation of APIs etc as well as some desktop & mobile application development, if the idea could get some traction (and community blessing), perhaps some others could join in with the project and push forward with it? Just an idea to help spread the knowledge in these forums and bring (hopefully/fairly) sustainable income in for all projects / site costs... *puts on flamesuit*
I thought about offering my services and producing a site application but when other suggestions such as a Facebook page etc were brought up in topics, Kev said he didn't really want any mainstream publicity. Creating an iOS app with a museum and the forum integrated would be pretty simple to do so if there's interest I'd be more than happy to help.
