Hey, I've been toying with the idea of upgrading to a HDTV, but I'm concerned about the the lag.
I'm no so concerned about using consoles like NES and SNES since I can get a pretty crisp picture using emulators, and just have it display on the TV thru HDMI.

What I am concerned about is using systems like N64, Gamecube, PS2, Xbox and Wii. The up-scaling/de-interlacing process that modern tvs do produces to much lag for me to enjoy the game, so I wanted to know if anyone has any experience in using external upscalers to reduce/eliminate.

Would getting something like this be suitable for my situation?

I know of things like the DVDO Edge do this, but it's a little out of my price range.

The lag isn't really that noticable if the upscaler is of decent quality. What you've got linked there is pure garbage in that it won't accept RGB input (the best video quality there is for older consoles) and upscale it. You'll be feeding it lower quality S-Video or composite for most consoles. I use Sony PVMs for RGB and cannot comment on upscaler quality but the X-RGB line seem to be very good and very expensive.

You'll also find that NTSC-U Gamecubes do not output RGB at all without modifying the expensive component cables. Most N64s don't support RGB either unless you track one down and mod it. If you want/need one I have several available.
