Might as well get this puppy started....

I'm guessing Japan has won 136 medals in badminton, 788 medals in Judo, and 1,200 medals in the breastroke. Either that or 4 people won medals and they've shown the replays 2,124 times.

I wouldn't know as I've been listening to Radio Five Live (thank god for Proxies...) and if that is anything to go on then we won several gold medals in swimming, andy murray was knocked out several times by a tennis player from Taiwan and that 14 year old diver was rubbish in the finals of sychonised diving...

Yep, Japan really likes to blow it's own trumpet, A LOT! Pisses me off to be honest.

Another thing that pisses me off is why do they have to use the title SENSHU every bloody time they mention an athlete's name? We know that they are an athlete we don't need to be told every time their name is mentioned. It's probably down to the way they Japanese use titles all the time but when I asked my wife why they do it she couldn't answer.

Why do they have to use "-san" after everyone's name?

Because they are compelled to do so? I know I don't but then again I wasn't born is a society of conformance.

It's pretty funny though, my wife is always going on about how the Chinese and North Koreans brain wash their own people in to thinking or saying certain things. When I tell her Japanese do the same thing (on a much smaller scale) she hits the roof demanding that I'm wrong  Yeah, right.

It's the same premise. In this case, they're using senshu as a honorific and nothing more. Just the same w/ doctor, coach, teacher, etc.

And I'm pretty sure all societies brainwash on some level. The west is definitely not the exception... they're just not as blatant about it as the communist nations.

Holly shit, here we go again. The missus has the TV on and they're still going on about that Japanese swimmer who won the gold. They're even doing an in-depth analysis on how he did it:rolleyes: Sure, I'm happy for the guy but for Christ sake, get on with the rest of the Olympics, Japan! Tell us about other countries.

It was the same with the world cup. Once Japan were out of it the coverage on TV practically vanished.

hehehe, yeah I noticed that. I felt sort of sorry for those tinny countries that only had 1 or 2 athletes participating.

I'm in Hawaii at the moment. Not only is it lamer events, but it's of course, almost 100% American coverage (Michael Phelps all over the place). Japan's asinine behavior is not unique to them. Mindless sports commentary are found across the board... and don't say the UK is exempt, b/c they imported UK announcers for the English track when Japan co-hosted the World Cup. They're only slightly less annoying than the Japanese.

Lol, everytime I walk through our living room and see the TV I always see the dumbest part of the Olympics...

Walk by the TV, glance over, a thonged man emerges from the swimming pool...I just kept walking.

Brazilian TV Channels are desperate for good results.

They thought that last year's Pan American Games, here in Rio, showed that we could improve last olympics results and at least stay in the Top 15.

Till now only 4 Bronze medals (3 in Judo and one in Swimming).

    Go Team Brazil!

 I don't think so.

Anyway, finally a good result. Gold in Men's 50m Freestyle with Cesar Cielo, with olympic record

Unfortunately, Thiago Pereira tried to get some medals, but finished 8th in Men's 400m Individual Medley and a 4th in Men's 200m Individual Medley.

Not to mention 3 of our judo fighters that are actual World Champions, but haven't got no medals...

I'm really glad I'm not watching the Olympics in the US. You can't get through an event without some video background story about one athelete who had to "overcome all odds" just to be there. Acutally, the Olympics are probably better overall if you watch them in a country where you don't know the language. You don't have to deal with all of the manufactured emotions of the newscaster.

On the contrary, I've seen more focus on how Athlete X stomped ass 4 years ago, and is doing so again now. Mainly that's b/c Michael Phelps has 90% of the airtime.

Are there any other swimmers apart from him and that Japanese guy? Doesn't seem so if I listen to the Radio / Watch TV.
