    Hi!

So, if the desr is not looking for update on the mc, there a prob.
Maybe the MG is different, dunno.
You could put a mod chip in it...

There's been a heavy thread loaded with info on this.

Because the PSX is NOT a PS2 but rather a hybrid of the two consoles and a different chipset, and a different BIOS, firmware, etc it will not work. For a long time.

Same goes for any homebrew software

It looks for mc:/BIEXEC-SYSTEM/xosdmain.elf. But it seems like it might be either incapable of decrypting the retail PS2 KELFs or FMCB v1.8c isn't compatible with it (since it just BSODs).

Too bad that DESR systems are rare and cost a lot; and that the Giant Enemy Crab did scramble and bind the HDD to the machine:sorrow:.
Same as retail PS2 apparently. If I had a stock PSX, I would rip the OSD KELF out of an update disc, decrypt the OSD and empty the KELF container, code a hello world that then runs the original OSD, compress my ELF, put it in the blanked KELF, rePAK the update disc and attempt to boot it with a Swap Magic or some hypothetical disc swap method:stupid:.
I miss so much fun with PS2 based arcade systems and DESRs:grief:.

Really ? That's interesting. What about FMCB in a DESR KELF ? Did anyone try ? Hash keys and EncDec keys are the same as the retail PS2 MechaCon. Don't know for CARD challenge keys and commands that are issued to unlock/auth the MC but I'm pretty sure it's the same too.

If you can affort shipping, you could order one from Yahoo Auctions Japan for cheap (Maybe ~1000 yen). The shipping would be really expensive though.

And if you wish to play around with the updates, I could help you with that. ;)

Maybe a little offtopic but how to buy from Yahoo Auction and what are the shipping costs to Europe for a DESR?

If you aren't getting yours from DefectX11, but really from YAJ, you need a proxy/deputy bidding service to help you. I used to be a user of Shopping Mall Japan, but moved over to From Japan Limited due to its cheaper fees.

When I shipped my launch SCPH-10000 in September 2012, it cost about $90 (SGD) to move it + its SCPH-10210 HDD unit set via SAL (Not even EMS lol) from Japan to Singapore. Since a DESR unit is heavier and bulkier, expect something more expensive!

I bought my DESR last year to ebay.
She is not reading the disc and therefore cost $ 90. Delivery to Europe from Japan cost about $ 110.

Does anyone know if WinHIIP can see the PSX's HDD... or is the File System not the same at all?
Maybe MiniOPL can work on it... if you can get a game on the HDD that is.

It's entirely encrypted, and the partitioning scheme used in there is probably a modified version of APA (48-bit LBA version).
