Hi, I'm going to try to get Free McBoot installed for my SCPH-10000, so that I can use Open PS2 Loader. But I was wondering, do I just need to launch the OPL ELF file and that's it? Or do I need to specifically configure the program for use on this console? I want to use the external HDD with it,.

External? I thought the PS2's PCMCIA network adapter kept the harddrive internally?

Or do you mean USB drive?

Yep, but make sure to use at least v0.8 since SCPH-10000 support was added somewhere between 0.7 and 0.8.
Your best option is to get the latest revision ... I'll check if I can find it compiled somewhere for you.

EDIT: Here you have a german board which is damn fast in compiling and uploading all the latest revisions of OPL + it's very organised, so you don't have to actually speak german in order understand what going on:

    http://ps2tools4you.djw-hosting.de/forumdisplay.php?fid=82

Here you have the code repository of OPL, so check it from time to time. Development on OPL is going slowly recently, but the program is near perfect anyway ;)

If you get to play with Open PS2 Loader on your SCPH-10000 PS2 don't forget to thank the following people in no particular order:

SilverBull, for proving it was possible with his ODEM module for Kernit and for warning us about the EXECPS2 issue on the "PROTOKERNEL" ROM which BORKS most of the homebrewn when you try to use them on that machine.

Jimmikaelkael for bearing up with my bickering about Open PS2 Loader not working on PCMCIA consoles, making an specific driver for it (that allowed it to work with the 18000 units) and later on figuring out a fix for the EXECPS2 problem on his own after getting some memory dumps from my PS2 (made with Kermit, thank you again SilverBull ). This 10k fix is now embbeded on the recent versions of Open PS2 Loader, Free MC Boot and Micro Launch Elf (uLE).

dlanor for bearing up with my bickering and fixing uLE multiple times without need (before we figured out that everything were related to the EXECPS2 problem)

And maybe (shameless self promotion ) myself for pushing these people around, giving or harvesting bits of information here and there and trying to make things happen ...

I'm just telling a resumed story on how the SCPH-10000 became supported by OPL...

If you want to confirm this just ask the authors of the said programs...

I aswell can confirm that. I remember when jimmi implemented support for the PCMCIA models, he's a very great coder and friendly aswell ... he doesn't bitch about anything.
He pretty much created the ultimate PS2 Homebrew imo. OPL even supports these slim HDD addon modchips aswell which allows every different PS2 with the strangest way to power a HDD to use this app, it's very great.
I hope that one day the development goes back to full speed and we gain 100% game compatability.

Hi, no not yet. I already have a card that I bought from playmore64 on here. Hopefully the one that I bought from you will turn up in the next week.

All right then, thanks. I haven't seen any releases of Free McBoot more recent than the 1.8b from late 2008 though? What is the more recent version to which you refer?

1.8 is from about mid 2010, right after we found out how to fix the problem with the 10k consoles.

    Quoted from the readme:
The readme says "Copyright 2008" as it was created originally at that time. The PS2 developers are quite active, you see ...

But I remember using Free McBoot 1.8 in late 2008 personally. And the changelog for it was exactly the same as the one that you quoted. So what's up here?

And I just checked my USB stick, and the file is dated to 2008. So you must be mistaken?

The fixes do exist. If it didn't you would NOT be using OPL on your SCPH-10000 PS2.

What I'm not sure of is if the updated/fixed version of FMCB was released openly.

The reason to have the fixes on FMCB is that ESR do require them to work properly.

I was talking about FMCB, since you quoted the chaneglog from the 2008 release (1.8b). This is the release that does not have an OSD on SCPH-10000/SCPH-15000.

I might be mistaken, not that it matter (at all).

By the way, Jimmikaelkael recently submitted the final PS2 10k fixes to the PS2 SDK:

You implied that some new version of Free McBoot had been released publically with full compatibility to the SCPH-10000 and SCPH-15000. But I then told you that this is not the case, since 1.8b was released at the end of 2008, and has no OSD on those consoles. I thought that it was important and certainly did matter, in order to clear that up...

Well I said that it doesn't matter, because I actually remembered that people do use uLE to launch homebrewn and it has the fix implemented. Perhaps that's the actual reason why nobody bothered with updating FMCB.

What I can do, I was tricked by my memory ... :banghead:

Ah, okay. Don't worry about it... it happens to all of us. But do you think that we could one day have a FMCB OSD on those models?

The OSD code is completely different on the early models. Even it has some different unused icons and sounds hidden within it.

You can use the patched OSD on the 18000 if I'm not mistaken.

Not that I care about the FMCB patched OSD. I find the HDD OSD much better and more useful.
