I was thinking of dual booting Puppy Arcade so I could emulate without suffering from the Mac's lack of decent emulators but after some searching I came across this:

    http://openemu.org

I've just compiled their latest build source from GitHub and it has to to be the most impressive frontend I've ever seen. Has an incredible interface and all of the rom databases and emulators are built in and automatically update.

I was worried it was going to be vapourware but looking at their twitter feed @openemu they're getting close to closed beta testing.

If you're a Mac user with pangs for some retro gaming it's definitely worth checking out.

I can provide compiled .pkg's if anyone needs me to, just drop me a PM.

That does look good, even if it's a little bit 'iTunes'

Lol after loading it with ROMZ!11!!!!1!! today I noticed that it borrows a lot from iTunes but believe it or not that actually makes it easier to use.

My only gripe is that it seems to emulate everything perfectly apart from Goldeneye lol.

The control scheme editing is a bit buggy at the moment as well. My cheapo USB controller makes the whole thing freak out and N64 emulation relies on a keyboard with a number pad which puts me out of the game until they fix the input menu. Haven't tried my PS3 controller yet though, will give that a shot later on.

    btw: 3000 posts FTW!

Ooh. I never really play emulated games, but man. That's one slick interface! The boxart looks like the games on GOG.com - subtle gloss and a thin black border. Love it, and everything else looks great too.

The boxart is a nice touch. It automatically pulls it from Archive.vg

Although I'm having trouble getting it to match all of the artwork, seems there is no fuzzy matching.

As long as its not as fucking slow as itunes I'm alright

And I wouldnt mind have that UI on linux, too bad the only way it could be ported (easily) is if its made with Qt

iTunes...slow? Oh you mean the intentionally handicapped Windows version?

Anyway it's pretty smooth actually and I have the source so I play around with bits and pieces from time to time, cutting stuff out that I don't want etc.

Soon I'll be abandoning it for HyperSpin on a Windows partition though, just looks too damn sexy to avoid.
