As many of you may already know there has been a death at Sea World Orlando on the 24th of Feb and i have been looking at videos and news reports about the incident. But what really annoyed me was there were videos called shamu kills trainer etc. but when i watched them there were nothing happening it was just the shamu show also they say its shamu killed the trainer when reports state that it wasn't shamu. Also when i was looking for the videos there was a video called shamu kills and i watched it and it was just a drawing of a whale that someone had put together. It is really annoying as i was trying to research what happend in Feb as i love whales and dolphins.
I was watching animal planet and it showed just lots of Zoo Keepers getting hurt/killed by animals. PRO TIP: DON'T FUCK WITH ANIMALS They're ANIMALS. Humans, the most civilized, can get pissed off for no reason and become violent, what will stop an animal? Fuck. it's sad, but I honestly don't have a lot of sympathy.
Lots of funny, albeit wrong, memes were created following this incident. Experts say the whale simply played with her to death. it's also not the first time the whale was involved in trainer deaths.
Thats your opinion and all i am trying to do is spread awareness of the fact that it wasn't shamu that killed the trainer but the whale that did was behaving very strangley so in my opinion what the should of done was put the whale back in the tank and run tests or released the whale into the wild as killer whales don't like being in captivity but on the other hant whales such as shamu love being in captivity. Shamu whales have certain markings and have a certian personality.
I know the whale was involved in two deaths and yes there were i saw quite a few when i was researching the incident. I find it annoying that someone can take the mick out of something serious.
I don't believe any being LIKES to be imprisoned in some sort of miniature version of the world where it has to perform tricks for a simple audience. Hence all the animals with signs of hospitalism. I can't stand any business that uses animals for the sake of show-biz. As if an elephant would be amazed to balance his enormous weight on two toes just for the sake of going back into his small trailer cage. But returning to the subject I want to express my entirely neutral feelings towards the incident. As far as I know the whale was irritated by her ponytail and confused it with some sort of food reward, thus didn't let go of her underwater. It's an animal afterall, and she knew it. If I wanted to become a volcanologist, I wouldn't blame the volcano and try to find out why that stupid jerk killed me, the innocent guy with the good will, with his eruptions and pyroclastic flows. It's sad that it had to end like that, but on the other hand I wouldn't trust a person that likes to CONTROL animals for a living and justifies that with shite such as "I love animals!". Anyone who loves animals loves to see them living in freedom. May sound romantic, but in my opinion animals would be better off when the one or another species vanishes instead of being artificially held in cages all over the world to entertain some stupid jerks. Oh, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who goes like "GOO!! Stab that bitch, VENDETTAAAA!!" while watching the news when they report about a Torero being attacked by the bull
On the one hand i agree they should be in the wild but on the other hand they are safe from hunters. but i brought up the point of having a enclosed area in open water so the whales and dolphins can swim for as long as they want and they are safe.
I was dragged along to plenty of spectacles masquerading as entertainment where animals were paraded then made to perform in my childhood, and while this recent example is unfortunate it must surely always be considered as a possibility by those engaging with any kind of being held captive then expected to deliver in such a manner. Although not exactly related to this particular conversation, I'll never forget my visit to a circus where I sat bored throughout. Of course, that's only because my parents had bought me Battle Arena Toshinden Ultimate Revenge Attack for the Saturn hours before and I couldn't wait to get home - neither is remembered fondly in hindsight!
The video of her death is on liveleak.com. It basically wouldn't let her out of the pool, and she eventually tired and drowned. It wasn't a violent attack, as it could have easily ripped her in half. More like a gorilla playing with a mouse, and oops it broke.
I am surprised that these things don't happen more often. We have an animal that is one of nature's most versatile hunters: the Orca kills seals from antartica to the fiords, they hunt dolphins and other whales that are on the same level of intelligence; they even hunt WHITE SHARKS... And there you have it, a WHOLE FAMILY of these beautiful animals who live in a glorified fishbowl and are fed small dead fish... Do people honestly think that they will stand that situation without their instincts comming up? It's stupid and naive. I remember when I went to the seaworld show 10 years ago, I was deeply touched and moved because I've always loved these animals, and I felt so sorry for them to be living like that, doing tricks in exchange of a few dead fish...
Hadn't actually heard of this until today, pretty sad news, I probably saw this girl when I was in Florida last year.
Yeah it is bad the whale is called Tilikum and the trainer was Dawn Brancheau she was the only trainer allowed to swim with this whale because of his size and because of the fact that he has killed twice before. I am doing research into what happened and i have found out that whales in captivity have killed four people and three of those was by Tilikum.
I think it would be very foolish of me to mention a videogame at this particular moment in time, especially within a thread initiated to discuss a fatality under such circumstances.
That is surprising, if this was say a dog, you know, a regular domesticised family pet then it would have been put down for just drawing blood. The fact this orca has killed 3 people is shocking, these things aren't pets but you can't really claim it's just animal nature either. While I did go to the show, and enjoyed it, the fact is, these creatures shouldn't be in places like that, doing the things they do. I would be very surprised if there wasn't an investigation into this and the orca either euthanized or the "Shamu Exhibit" withdrawn.
