Saw it on eBay but couldn't be bothered to bid on it - didn't seem worthy enough with it's authenticity in doubt. Might be genuine but could just as easily be home made ;o
I'm fairly sure there were homebrew IDE connectors for GB dev back in the day, but the circuit board looks pretty professional. I doubt it's homebrew. The Gameboy itself is a standard model.
Something makes me wonder why an "official" dev unit would be made up of a gameboy cart with a hole in the top... surely ninty would make up a nice case for it? Oh, and was developing done on an actual machine? Or something like the super gameboy...
That is part of a Wideboy. The Wideboy for the N64 could be used both with and without a GBC controller. That GBC is simply a shell--there are no game playing internals and it cannot play any games by itself. Instead the LCD screen, speaker and controls are all wired into the circuit board which connects to the front of the Wideboy via a cable. The game is inserted into the Wideboy which is inserted into the N64 and then connected to the GBC controller. When the N64 is turned on the game is seen on both the TV screen and the LCD screen on the GBC controller. It can be played with the GBC controller. Note that buttons such as the power switch are missing. By itself this unit is utterly useless. However, if you are trying to assemble a complete Wideboy (note that without this controller a Wideboy is still perfectly usable, you simply use the N64 controller to play the game) it might be worth bidding on. -hl718
You mean like... tracing as in the "the dude with S/N number XXXXX Leaked the proto. Send the Ninjas! Kill! Kill" kind of tracing? if so, I understand. Thanks. !
