Back before the original Xbox was launched, I remember browsing through my Hyper Magazine (multi-platform gaming mag in Australia) and reading about the launch titles for the Xbox. The biggest featurette was on Halo, which looked to be in an earlier stage of development (however it was a FPS by this stage, not the RTS or 3rd Person Shooter like it was during it's dev cycle) and it showed different concept images/screenshots of the game. There were your standard shots of early Warhogs and weapons, HOWEVER, there was another thing which caught my eye early on, and made me want this game from the moment I saw it. I remember specifically that there was a shot of some kind of mobile suit, or small mech warrior type vehicle Master Chief was supposedly able to use. It was more like a slightly larger than MC size mechanical walker, however my memory is a little scattered from years of not thinking about this. If anyone has seen pictures of this or knows that i'm not insane, please let me know!
I saw the same thing along with an early version of the warthog in PC gamer back when Halo was an exclusive Mac title. Unfortunately I don't have the issue anymore to scan pictures, but I'm sure that with enough digging you'll be able to find some reference to this.
I remember seeing an early video of Halo (this was after it had become an FPS) in a PC Gamer CD. I can't remember if there were Mech suits in it or not, but that CD might be a good place to look if you can find it. All I really remember is that it looked very different from the released version. Even if it doesn't have the mech suits, it'd be cool to see it if anybody has it.
No one has found anything??? I had these pics in a mag when they were previewing Xbox's launch games.
From what I can remember the mech suit was the same green of MC's armour/gear. I dont remember too much, I just remember the bipedal stance and a vague recollection of the cockpit.
