Im looking at getting a PCE CD-ROM2 but it seems that they have a tendency to fail because of the lasers

Any one know of where i can get a replacement laser? I want to have one on hand just in case but all i can find is the lasers for the other models.

Im also looking on behalf of someone else who having issues with theirs, its inconsistently working with different games.
here's his description, my guess was the laser

"Rondo more often than not will crash on file select. Sometimes it doesn't and you can play the game until it randomly crashes for some reason. The other game is It Came From the Desert. The game will randomly crash but the FMV stuff is really choppy. It'll load bits of the video, then pause for a few seconds to load the next bit of video for the same scene. Not sure what the problem is"

The lasers are KSS-220A or 162A, you can get them from old Sony Discmans. The problems are most likely caused by bad capacitors.

Recap the unit first then condemn the laser if recap doesn't help.

Look how disgusting those leaky 4.7uf look with dust specks attached to them. Replacing them made the unit go from barely working to perfectly fine.

Those 4.7uF caps are almost always the culprit. I have gotten units working before just by replacing these and regreasing the laser sled rail.

those caps would be a dead give away, he did mention that there didnt seem to be any sign of the caps being bad but ill let him know to try replacing them anyway.

thanks for the suggestions, its too bad i cant find any old/new stock lasers tho
