I have 14 original phat PS3 consoles ranging from 40GB-250GB HDDs. They are all on FW version 4.00-4.66. I know the phats have more value bc of backwards compatibility.

the chrome one is a CECHA, thats a launch 60GB which is the best retail model provided it doesn't YLOD.

EDIT: Oh! I see a second one!

I'm going to look at them better tomorrow and get a count on what's what as far as model numbers and such....lets just assume none of them are backwards compatible...would $40 each be asking too much?

Well you can get those for $60 these days so im not sure, none BC ones I would say $50 and they will fly but you could charge more provided they show no sign of failing but even with the none BC ones there a different PSUs and different heatsync fans that could change the price so IDK.

So Tl;Dr: as long as they are in good shape go for $80!

I just bought a YLOD'd one for €20 and a working one for ~€43, so $40-50 doesn't sound too bad to me. But obviously the european market prices differ...
Anyways, if you know how to jailbreak them and have the time to do it, that should add some value. And also enable some (emulated) PS2 BC for all models, if I'm not mistaken.

Is it possible to downgrade them because they are on 4.60-4.66? I was under the impression 3.55 was the last exploitable kernel.

You need some hardware to flash them, but yes it's possible. (That's why I got me the phats instead of later models - all phats can be downgraded, some slims, none of the super slims.) Probably not worth the effort though if you have to look into, and acquire, all the necessary stuff first...
