I have a clear xbox attached to a 7in tft screen all in it`s official matching case It has been in my loft/attic for some time standing upright, IE the console on it`s back/connection side, but all packaged up if you know what I mean. I went to check it was all OK to use yesterday and the draw wouldn`t open Do you think as it is standing up for a while that if left lying down for a while the drawer may open in a month or so? Rather than have to open etc etc
maybe when you put iton it's back (by back you mean the video/ethernet ports on on the floor right?) that the molex connector that powers the DVD drive came undone? I am at school so I can't check if it still would turn on if that was unplugged.
All powers up ok, screen shows normal menus, can scroll through game saves etc etc just drawer won`t open Sure it must be something moved and hope it will correct itself over time
Hmm,you could try and manually open it. http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/ejecting_dvd_drive_manually.htm
Hi, Dont suppose you know the model of the drive? There is quite a common problem on the Samsung xbox (and coincidently Samsung 360 drivers) that causes the tray not to open. Wheny you try to open the tray, can you hear a 'clunk' sound? If so, its probably a Samsung. You can fix it by giving the elastic band on the inside a good clean to remove all the dust.
How can I tell what drive it is? Don`t think it woukld be dust as has been inside the case/bag with the screen
The same thing happened to me a couple of days ago when I took out one of my xboxes to test some games I just bought and the disc tray wouldn't open by any means, so I opened it manually (with a paper clip, just as you'd open manually a normal cd/dvd drive) and after that it worked fine. It just needed a little push lol, give it a try, maybe that fixes it up.
Is it an unopened / sealed official Crystal Xbox? Then it'll be a Samsung as they were only equipped with what was considered the better drive. You'll know as soon as you open it: http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/xbox_dvd_version_comparison.htm If you've not tried to prise the drive open yet or the manual method, then the easiest way is to power the unit up > press OPEN > and put your finger nail between the top of the DVD drawer and the casing and pull down. Most drawers open with that. It's a really common problem, especially in units that have been opened. Leaving it on it's back, side, upside down will make no difference. Cleaning the entire DVD mechanism often helps, as does replacing the rubber drive belt and also re-seating the case, ensuring it is properly put back together and not overly tight.
Found a reasonable size paper clip so going to try and pop it open tonight/tomorrow and see what happens The unit has never been opened all sealed crystal version, at all hardly ever used, I am sure it is becuase it has been upright for quite some time. I know it`s sad but would be a shame to open it up as I like minty things to stay minty, but if doesn`t work then may have to resort to it :crying:
Well used a paper clip and a finger nail and after much gentle coaxing the dray came open Then I had to keep opening and shutting for some time to ensure it ran smoothly Sounds like it may have been a bit of dust or marginally out of alignment while standing up So thanks to the hints to get it working  Now can take it away for weeks in august in france with a 8-9 hour drive to keep the kids happy watching films/playing games!!
