    I installed a Aladdin XT PLUS2 modchip in a V1.6 today using Zer0-2k11's great guide (link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/7asbelv3wqn0erk/AAATk3FhXGSFoGr__NCcxu3Ka?dl=0 ).
Everything is working as it should, however the red LED of the chip is always lit even when the Xbox is shutdown.
This is probably a side effect of the 'always on' mod.

Is it supposed to be this way? Is there a way to turn off the LED when the Xbox isn't powered on?
    (Besides desoldering it of course)

    Thanks!

Nobody got a Aladdin XT or similar modchip?
The LED is really bright and easy to see in a dark room.

You could use the old engine light on the dashboard trick, cover it with a piece of electrical tape.

Sure, but it just seems weird that the modchip is powered up 24/7.

    Some options:
    • Revert the 'always on' mod
    • Unplug the console when not in use
    • Cover up the LED
    • Remove the LED
    • Replace the LED with a buzzer
    • Find a different power source for the chip - one that isn't powered in standby mode

Computers are powered all the time too. It's probably just using the pin that has voltage in standby

I've never noticed this on the Aladdin xt installs I've done, but I keep my systems in a switched PSU so there's not constant power.

Just some obvious 1.6 install checks, you've performed the lpc rebuild right?
You've bridged the points on the chip with BT?
Did you cut the trace in the diagram for 1.6 compatibility?

Yep, I've soldered the header in, rebuilt the LPC. Then connected D0 to GND on the backside of the mainboard and BT to GND on the modchip itself.
Also cut the LFRAME trace, but didn't connect anything to it (I think it leads to D0, right?).

Anyway, I've measured the standby power consumption of this V1.6 Xbox and the modchip doesn't make much difference, it's really quite high.
4.6W with Aladdin XT plugged in
    4.4W without
Interesting enough, my V1.5 Xbox only draws 0.5W in standby. I've found this post by l_oliveira which probably explains why: http://assemblergames.com/l/threads/xbox-1-6-power-supply-problem.43708/#post-640985

That's enough reason for me to to not keep it constantly plugged in.

you should conect the d0 from the modchip to LFRAME contact.
