I think I may need some help troubleshooting this one. I recently received an OG Xbox from a friend who wanted it softmodded. He said that the seller who sold it to him never had an AV cable to test with but he claimed that the xbox didn't have any strange error codes and that it was was neverless in good condition. So I take it home and plug it into some stock AV cables and it boots to green and then flashes red with no audio or video without rebooting. I think it may be a FRAG but I can't be entirely sure. I've heard fixes that range from taking out the clock capacitor and cleaning the surrounding area(I was already planning on it) to installing an xecuter 2.6.

I plan on checking if the IDE cables are connected properly and removing that clock capacitor soon but I'd appreciate it if I could get some input on this.

Checking the clock capacitor is something that should be done on all xbox mobo's.
In case of a frag, you will see a couple of reboot attempts. (The blower stops and restarts if I remember well) After that, it will flash red and green. (That's were the letters frag come from) 1.6 rev. xboxes switch off. The older ones stay powered on.
Without AV cable, it should startup flashing orange.

Thank you for the clarification. I thought it might be a frag a first but I discovered a video of one lighting up and it doesn't match mine. I won't figure it out until I open it up I guess. I'll get to that later today maybe.

While I did everything I said I would (checked the clock capacitor and re-seated the IDE cables) it ended up being to no avail. It's not a complete loss as I did end up discovering what may be one of the systems problems. When you turn it on you can clearly hear the HDD clicking so I'm pretty sure it's either dead or dying. When I told my friend I'd buy a modchip for him and that I already have a replacement HDD he just told me that it was too much trouble to wait and bought a new(and hopefully working) xbox from a more trustworthy seller. He left it here so I'd normally keep it as a parts box seeing as it has a working dvd drive and all but I'm still curious about the red blinking lights(not Christmas lights just red) and the lack of video/audio so I may end up buying something like an Aladdin XT to play around with it more when I get some free time.

    --Update

In hindsight I realize that it's a bad eeprom. I will see about fixing this later.
