I never used the original xbox much, but I have one here that had a fall and destroyed the dvd drive. I have a DuoX2 lying around but I can't remember if you can mod the xbox using a spare drop in from another xbox. I can just drop in another drive for the linux install, corrct?
Thats correct, plug and play, just make sure it was an original xbox drive. The best dvd drive is a samsung it reads nearly everything, just saying incase you want to buy a replacment
I have two with samsungs, guess I was lucky. Some fool dropped it off the table, shattered the tray, even the GEARS splintered. I am going to attempt my own slim xbox with the crippled one.
All Xbox 1 Dvd Drives are Plug and play between Systems The Hard Drives are The ones you need the keys for on the xbox 1
Don't know if this would work with a destoyed DVD drive, but for drives not reading disks (when you don't have a replacement drive) you can use a PC dvd drive. http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/swap-dvd.php It will only read backups though, not originals.
C4EVA's Samsung 616F cracked firmware can help you if you want to replace completely your original Xbox Drive. http://www.xboxhacker.net/index.php?topic=684.0
Well the power is hardly standard, but we get the idea. I have a slim dvd I wonder if it would work. It should I suppose.
they are talking about the original xbox not 360. And btw the 360 like the classic does not have standart power connectors (there are a few more wires for different signals) and also they have a single unique key per drive to attach them to the 360 so it's definitely no 'normal' pc dvd drive now about the replacement, you can swp with any other xbox 1 dvd drive or use also the famous (but now hard to find ) samsung with a flashed fw
btw in case someone would have a spare xbox power connector (the yellow wires) after a mod, I'll definitely be interested
Assembler, care to share which brand/model the original(broken) drive were ? Might be repairable if it was a Sammy (Samsung) drive.
