Hello all, I just installed an Aladdin XT modchip in my original xbox. It seems to work since I get the Evo logo, but I'm not sure where to go from here. How would I go about installing the Evolution X dashboard, etc. Are there step any step instructions? My ultimate goal is to be able to play backups, imports and save games to a (bigger) HDD. Thanks in advance, - John
One way to load soft mod files is a USB flash drive, some are detected as a memory unit with the right cable. Xbox doesn't need a modchip to read import and backup discs, or install games to HDD. Just that 8GB is terrible... Example of a USB adapter:
Use the HeXen boot CD and install it that way. Burn to a DVD-r, pop it in the console and reboot.. Download from here, if on a mac you'll have to open using a zip utility: https://mega.co.nz/#!41cTXSiB!qoGBQ7RlzMSPyo097I4rm3hsaxS4ONOxGP9y5qr5ick
I downloaded the file, burned it to a DVD-R and put in into my xbox, but it tells me it can't read the disc.
I thought it was. I get the "EvoX" logo when I hold the power button. I tried a backup and it didn't work. What am I doing wrong?
Maybe the disc wasn't burned properly? If you haven't already, try using ImgBurn to burn the disc. If it still doesn't work, try ImgBurn with a different brand DVD-R and a different DVD writer.
I installed the modchip, Alladin XT, and did nothing else. Will it still play backup games or do I need to install some sort of dashboard? I'm really new to this mod, thanks again for all the help guys.
Here are some pics of my install if it helps. http://m.imgur.com/oIq5FJZ,cZcoBFw,K7oiO1d,T0iy2lR I'll pick up some DVD-r, thanks.
The original XBox use DVD drives from 3 different companies, Samsung, Thomson, and Philips. All will read DVD-R, but only Thomson will read DVD+R. Here is the disc media compatibility list that I got off Tomshardware.com. Samsung Drive: Reads all CD-R/RW Reads all DVD-R/RW Will not read DVD+R/RW Thomson Drive: Will not read CD-R Will only read SOME (generally expensive media) CD-RW Reads all DVD-R/RW Reads all DVD+R/RW Philips Drive: Will not read CD-R Will read SOME (generally expensive media) CD-RW Reads all DVD-R/RW Does not read DVD+R/RW
Just a heads up, I ultimately got it working with the slayers boot disc. Thanks again for everybody's help!
I was going to suggest slayers for chips that don't contain built in for servers. Should boot fine without dashboard modifications. Stick with dvd-r for backups, far better compatibility rate and less change of mistakenly not finalizing the disc or closing the session after burning. Now you just need to snag a 2tb saga drive and a ide to sata board Such awesome emulation on the original Xbox and now home brew like coinops make it look pretty.
LOL Mooshue:"Now you just need to snag a 2tb saga drive and a ide to sata board " Just fished my upgrade. Did a 1tb upgrade, At first I wanted to do a 2tb upgrade but then i need to buy a new drive... 1tb was ready to snag Tip: if you use filezilla STOP USING IT! wasted 3 days using that crappy ftp program. Using FlashFXP the transfer of 700gb of xbox contend was done in one day Some Reasons why Filezilla is crap: First of you need to downgrade Filezilla, newest version will not let you connect to xbox Second: If you donwload from sourceforge.net it wil install a Toolbar WTF
