I live in a 110v country and I have 2 xbox. A 1.6 110v and a 220v 1.4. I'm wondering if it's possible to exchange the psu from one to another. Or maybe like the dreamcast replace it for a pico psu. Has anyone ever managed to do so? Any advice?
I believe 1.6 PSUs are unique to 1.6 boards. So a straight swap is a no. My memory is rusty, but I remember this being the case when my 1.4 PSU started to whine and wanted to swap. There are 3rd party 'fuck knows who makes them' universal PSUs you can get from China. They're switching as well afaik, and work on all version of XBOX motherboards. That being said, no idea how safe they are either.
1.0 - 1.1 are swap-able between each other 1.2 - the mythical 1.5 are swap-able between each other 1.6 only works on 1.6 boards.
you can mod a version 1.0 and 1.1 psu to work on the 1.2-1.5 but not the 1.6 sadly. 1.5 is extremely uncommon and only a few people have reported supposedly finding one. Most people think its just a 1.4 board with a defect and that the 1.5 revision doesn't really exist.
Thanks for the clarification. So.. last measure without the need of external converter would be using a pico psu. What do you guys think?
With psu, as long as you know which pin has what voltage and which is 5vsb and power on then u just need to modify chosen replacement psu to match pinout.
There's a different voltage on the LPC points afaik. That's the only real way of knowing, but like Toxic mentioned, it could might as well be a defect.
My mistake. Either way, if u are using a replacement xbox psu, it should just be a case of matching up the pins, might need to de-pin the connector to do this. This should help
This is going to help! If my wife let me work on any of my consoles tomorrow, this mod will be the first one!
Lol, I know what u mean. I drive my partner loopy when I start modding. Putting a 1.6 psu in a 1.4 should be easier as u only need to split the 3.3v into 2 extra lines and move a couple of pins.
I finally got time to work on this and to anyone attempting to do so, it's not possible. You won't damage the xbox but it won't start at all. I've split the 5v (red) from one pin to 4 other pins. White to orange, gray, green. (0 - 3.3V) Blue to purple. (3.3V) Yellow to Yellow (12v) GND to GND. It's time to look into buying a foxlink PSU 110v.
Sorry, I haven't noticed you replied to the thread. I'm using the 1.6 delta psu on my 1.4 motherboard (the motherboard used to be powered by a 220v foxlink psu.) The thing is, if you can't use the stand by and powerok lines, you don't have the 3.3v line for the motherboard. I've traced the wires to show what I did, and highlight the problems which are Gray, Green and Purple.
Sorry, only just had time to reply. From what I can see, u have used Orange (5v) from your 1.6 psu to power the Orange (3.3v) on your 1.4 xbox, this won't work and could damage your mobo. Use white (3.3v) from your 1.6 psu for Orange (1.4 mobo). Use White (1.6psu) also for Green and Grey (1.4 mobo). Use Blue (1.6 psu) for Purple (1.4 mobo). Hope this helps.
