Hey so I never ever looked into original Xbox modifications. I started getting into dev kits and such when I had an Xbox 360. So I never though about the retro or old gen consoles. I recently bought two original Xbox consoles. The guy that I bought it from said one had the red ring of death and the other one was working. The one we tried first was the working one. I never thought to turn the 2nd one about a week ago. So I did and it sure enough had flashing alternating lights. Orange and green were the colors. I plugged the AV cable in and the color was green and then switched to straight orange. It booted up normal and then it gave me a weird dashboard. EvolutionX I believe is what it was called. I checked the console. The one that worked was opened but the one that was modified wasn't opened. So I opened up the console to check and there was no sign of any alternations. However I researched the dashboard to see that it was a modded Xbox, sorta like a JTAG or RGH. My questions are how much is it worth, and is there a way to upgrade the hard drive without losing the modification?

If the xbox is chipped then you can just use a new hard drive and slayer CD to set-it up. If the hard drive is only trouble

I'm not totally sure what your asking though & what exactly is the problem. which one are you trying to switch hard drive with? and have you found a chip yet? (it may be under the motherboard btw, but you should see some extra wires to top of motherboard)

The xbox was never opened until I opened it. I was wondering if I could upgrade the hard drive and still have it modified. The Xbox I'm trying to udgrade the hard drive on is the modified Xbox.

The problem with Xbox's is the hard drive is locked to that motherboard. The only way I know to switch a hard drive on a xbox is to clone the original hard drive to a new one. (except if the xbox is chipped as stated before).
