    Hello Everyone,

This is my 1st post in your rich forum so hope its in the right section and as in the title; I have two consoles Ver. 1.0 chipped with X2 and Ver. 1.1 Chipped with DUOX2 and both in great conditions and planning to upgrade the hardware for one of them so seeking your advice on which one to pick for that job.

for the RAM i found this one so is it the right item? and how many chip(s) shall i buy: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SAMSUNG-K4D...t-x-4-Banks-/400870920463?hash=item5d55c4d10f

And still searching for the right CPU so if you can advise on that as well it would be great.

you need 4 of those ram chips per console, you can get them a little cheaper on aliexpress

Is aliexpress trust worthy? When I took a look for the RAM chips on there a couple weeks ago it looked kinda sketchy, and I also found some bad reviews. If a few people have good experience with them I will buy a few RAM chips from them, however, in the mean time I've opted for the buying them on ebay.

The problem is that most of the sellers in ebay are the same sellers of aliexpress!!!!! see the product description and you will see that item will be dispatched from Hong Kong rather than using the same photos in both sites

Sourcing the correct memory chips is the least of your problems because actually fitting them is a right PITA and unless your soldering skills are top notch then success is completely hit or miss. Oh - and you don't remove any chips - you need to add 4 more of these.

You also ask about CPU upgrades - NOT a simple task unless you know what you are doing and even if you do, it requires considerable skill.

In short, the upgrades are definitely worthwhile but do yourself a favour and save money/hair torn out on failed DIY attempts and buy an upgraded board from either Floydthebarber (US) or N64freak in Europe. I have only ever dealt with N64 and his workmanship is second to none.

    Good luck mate.

Has anything changed about the CPU upgrade the past few years? The last time I did some research, there were two or three people doing the mod, and not providing or selling their methods. All I know, are the CPU models compatible with the xbox and nothing about how to mount them.
Do you have anything to share besides those?

No one has yet shared the method of mounting the upgraded CPUs nor has the amount of people doing the mod changed. Its still as far as I know only Trusty, N64Freak and Floyd who can do it.

I heard you gotta use an adapter pcb because even the compatible cpus aren't a 1:1 match wrt pins, but don't quote me on that. If true, I can see why those guys keep their mouths shut and expect (rightly so) to get paid for their (probably self-developed, small-batch) boards...

AliExpress is safe, there's decent buyer protection right out of the box. Been buying lots of stuff there for around a year now. With some of the shadier sellers, sometimes AE themselves step in to cancel and refund all customer's transactions. Many of the same offers are on eBay too, but AE tends to be cheaper. (If you're extremely stingy, try looking for used ram bars, with photos of the actual items so you can see which chips you get, then desolder.)

Btw, I could see the appeal of those back when the Xbox's specs still were considered decent and you wanted some extra oomph for some homebrew titles (mostly xbmc and emulators afaict). But apart from the novelty value, is there much benefit in doing these mods? Seeing how you can get better hardware for the same price nowadays. Only good reason I can think of is Chihiro games. I know some (most?) require the extra ram, is that also true for the cpu upgrade?
