It should do provided your PVM has a SCART socket, otherwise you'll need to use an adapter to get the RGB and Composite Sync signal.
Something like this normally works fine (along with an F-to-F SCART adapter, BNC plugs etc):

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Component-Vid...uting_CablesConnectors_RL?hash=item3cac5dbc53

You can usually modify it to output audio, or find a SCART lead that has separate audio outputs. For the one I use, I soldered in a small 3.5mm jack on F-to-F SCART adapter instead. This enables you to tap the audio direct to a pair of headphones (with an in-line volume control), or straight to an amp.

No, unfortunately Sony PVM's don't have scart rgb outs on the back, only BNC. You will have to buy or build a cable from BNC to scart and connect it to a scart switch with all the consoles plugged in. At least that's what I would do since making BNC-cables out of RGB ones for every single console seems a bit dull.

    Here's a blog entry I found about building a BNC->Scart cable:

Oh yeah i was planning on doing that, but will it display after i make an adapter? Will homebrew look as good as original consoles? such as neo geo and stuff?

No it won't. Xbox will not run in the low resolutions of the original consoles. Also by using SCART RGB it will mean 480i. You're better off on a HDTV running 480p via Component.

Also, I'm not sure but check first that US Xbox 1 console actually output SCART RGB. I recall hearing only Euro ones did.

Also if you have a newer PVM, some of them can accept Component Video. A few were designed to be used with external SDI adapters in a studio environment.

I haven't looked into newer PVM's but when you say this- do you mean that there's component only, and no rgb- or that it's switchable?

Also- any recommendations for a small size 60hz compatible PVM that also does 25/30?

They are usually switchable either via a manual switch on the back (around the sockets), or via some form of on-screen menu.

I have x2 Panasonic (JVC clone) BT-H1490Y 14" monitors that have this function (RGB/ Component). I got them for around GBP£30 each, and they have a 2003 manufacture date. There's a .PDF here if you want to have a general idea:

those Panasonics sound pretty nice prices on ebay atm are pretty jacked up so ill just keep an eye out.. I'll have to recheck for manual switches on my pvm - it has pretty much every other feature in the OSD, but no component (at least in the menu) and iirc, no serial.

There is a PVM model in Japan which claims it's multi-sync, but it just upscales 15khz to 31khz. AFAIK, there is no PVM model which supports RGB & Component properly. I could be wrong, but they're so fucking heavy I'd make extra certain before buying one.

On that note, the RGB input on the US models is DB25 only. There's a long thread here in Off Topic started by yours truly debating buying one. If you're in the US, and don't mind a little tinkering, it's your best bet. If you don't mind doing a lot of tinkering and are handy w/ wood works, an arcade monitor in a box is even better. Way uglier though. It is not a pussy magnet, for sure.

As per Motzilla, the Xbox is not the best way to play your games through emulation due to it's inability to output 240p. If you have/buy the PVM and you make a nice little DB25 <-> VGA (and of course RGB for consoles) converter, you can us a VGA cable with an Arcade VGA card for a pretty dope setup. This is what I had in Hawaii. I doubt Xbox's Mame is updated as much as the PC versions anyway, and there's the memory issue as well.

Bonus Points: The Japanese version of the PVM (The ProFeel Pro) has Japanese 21-pin RGB input. Maybe not too useful for everyone, but there is basically no cable on the planet that uses DB25. Whatever the fuck Sony was thinking.

I just use a BNC to VGA cable on my PVM which goes to a small plastic project box I bought from RadioShack that I mounted a standard 15pin VGA style port on as well as two RCA Phono audio jacks. I took a Euro SCART switcher box, lopped off the end that went to the TV and wired it up to the box with the port and RCA jacks. Now I just plug in a Euro SCART cable to play any of my systems in RGB. I also built a Jamma Supergun which has a 15 pin VGA style port wired up so I can easily hookup my monitor to that. I've never used the 25pin RGB port on my PVM.

OK sorry, but that was too geeky for my brain to understand, so you build a super gun and it works with your pvm?

Here's a simple setup using a manual SCART switch. The TV output connects to the BNC inputs for RGB and the composite video is used for the sync.
You can bridge the sync output loop to one of the video inputs to preserve composite video for VCR or NES etc:

Ah, - I think we might have 2 topics going on- I have 2 of the massive PVM2030's like you're talking about (although both have some sort of yoke issue i think- they're displaying video bounced off the top of the tube...)

But Oldgamingfart and myself I think were talking about the more traditional Sony PVM's (PVM is the overall name for any of their "pro video monitors") - I'm using a small- 14" or so model, Oldgamingfart's panasonic is also a 14... basically desktop editing monitors.

Most of the "not ancient" pvm's on this line support normal RGB + optional external composite sync via off-the-shelf bnc jacks. None of that crazy "computer input" of the big pvm's, like the 2 PVM-2030's i have.

Yeah, we short sort out our apples & oranges. For Evangelion, who is in North America, he's going to get one kind of PVM, and one kind only (and it will have a PVM logo on it). It will have a DB25 connector. I think Motzilla's solution is elegant, but a little overkill. Matt over at shmups used to make converters. Basically DB25 to DB15. Someone at any number of forums (here, shmups, SRK, etc.) could easily make one with the pinout. I never had sync issues with mine, and I used my supergun, PC + AVGA, Saturn, DC, and PS2. You'd also want/need some type of 21-pin RGB *OR* Scart connector. It's easier for me to get JPN cables, so I opt for the 21-pin RGB connector.

Yes, it has geometry issues. It is old technology. But remember, this is a land devoid of all things RGB, so it's definitely the easiest out of the box and *BIG* RGB solution. The only issue I really had that bothered me was there's some discoloration in one corner when in TATE mode, and if you wanted to adjust the picture, you have to take the shell off. I'm scared shitless of high voltage electricity so I had someone do it for me.

I can turn you on to someone at shmups who's pretty good with the stuff if you want, Eva.

This stuff is so confusing, now that i think about that monitor is kinda big, is there any other smaller options for the US? also gaijin, This PVM will not work with ps2,gamecube,xbox right? only psx, saturn and anything older?

If we're talking big PVM's if rgb is an option- gamecube and ps2 will work fine i know ... xbox I've never tried on rgb, but have been meaning to even though I haven't turned my main one on for years now.

the HD modes of newer systems (usually vga or progressive rgb/component resolutions) won't work on traditional pvm's. Dreamcast and PS2 vga modes are out too...

On the other hand, running SD on these systems, they should support rgb just fine.
at the worst you've got svideo/composite inputs.

The PVM will work fine w/ anything that outputs RGB. You're going to have to get some converters though as the US models don't have a standard connector. The Xbox & GC will be a bigger challenge. Both output VGA (which is basically 31khz RGB). I've never seen an RGB cable for these. They might have them in Europe, but you'll need a converter to handle Euro Scart. The games will look better in VGA/Component on a proper monitor though, but that's a different can of worms.

As for smaller options, there are many, but they're much smaller. For starters, there are 19" PVMs. There are also old Commodore/Amiga monitors (some multi-sync) but again, you will have the connection issues. Don't throw the 25" PVM solution out just yet. It is nice and worth the effort I think! I looked in Off Topic for the old thread I made but apparently the search here just doesn't work. Maybe after the migration?
