I was playing on my Xbox today and it turned itself off. I turned back on and and less than five seconds later it turned off on its own again. I went online for a solution and I'm hearing a lot it could be a capacitor issue. However I have a feeling that it could be a faulty power switch that I replaced last year. Any guesses?
Guessing... -corrosion on the trace's leading to the power/eject from a leaking capacitor -faulty power supply or same deal leaking capacitor or broken solder joint.
Possibly. Open it and and see if any caps leaked onto the board or any corrosion around the trace's leading to power/eject resistor's.

Well untill I can get a soldering iron I can't take it apart yet. I also picked a hell of time to misplace my toolkit. When get the means to do so I will disassemble and fix it.
True, this is quite common too. But usually you will detect that one with the Sparky Sparky noise it produces when you wiggle the cord at the input. @Op: If you are not used to soldering and using an iron on motherboard and small things, I recommend you practice a little before doing repairs on your xbox.
I agree, I fixed an Xbox with broken traces and I ended up using some wire from an old computer mouse cord, they are very fine and you need extra thin wire, and you can do more damage than good if your soldering is not up to snuff.
