I have an Original Xbox 1.0 from 2001-11-05 (Original launch unit) and i'm upgrading the loud ass stock Millennium Electrionics fan on there and replacing it with a Magic fan from a broken emachines PC which has the same plug, Plugged it into the Xbox and it worked, but cable is so long and i can't find some new screws to screw it in and it won't screw in.

Would need more details on the fan. When you say it wont scew in do you mean that the holes don't line up or that you cannot find the correct ones?

I did this mod to my Xbox GPU fan. All I did was press down and turn the screw in between the GPU heat sink fins. The screw wedged itself in there tightly. While not perfect, it's in there tight and certainly isn't going anywhere. I was able to use one of the original fan screw holes and a second larger screw into the heat sink fins unless I am miss-remembering.

Is there any difference between the GPU used in 1.0 and the later models? I just replaced the fan and heatsink with one of the passive hearsinks from a later model.

This appears to work, but I haven't stress tested it. Would be good to know if I should reverse this :)

The GPU's should be identical. Replacing the heatsink with the later model should work just fine considering the 1.0 model heat sink is small with a tiny weak fan while the passive heat sink is larger so they should have similar thermal dissipation. If you are worried about it then replace the thermal compound with a higher end paste. Also the Xbox does has fail safes to turn itself off if overheating occurs.
