So I ordered the a plain super everdrive board from stoneage gamer, and after enough fiddling I got it working. However i have to use the reserve OS every single time because of a little mistake I made, but also due to confusion of an almost nonexistent OS. See when I put a case on it and plugged it in, i wanted to update the OS. I saw on the internet the latest is v12, but for some reason it said it was v13. Confused at whether or not it was a firmware number separate from the os or stoneage just made a mistake, I went and flashed v12 anyway. So when i flashed v12, none of the games loaded from my 8gb sdhc card. When i use the reserve OS v13 it works. So now i know v13 works perfectly but... i look all over the internet and all i find is v12. I can't find a download for it and I would really rather not have to press X+A every time i want to use it. So, is it a custom OS by stoneage gamer? Is it an alpha that shouldn't have been released yet? Or is it just plain elusive, in which case can i get a link? I ask both in curiosity and to make using this thing easier :wink-new:
I do not load the OS on to the Super EverDrive when I get them, its already on there. I believe v13 is for PCB v1.6 ONLY. I do not think its backwards compatible with any PCB version older than 1.6. If this is the case then that is probably why its not posted anywhere. To prevent people with PCB older than 1.6 from flashing it. My guess is KRIKzz never thought someone would actually do the opposite and see that they have v13 and decide to flash an older OS version. :highly_amused::friendly_wink: It also might be that v13 just added PCB v1.6 support and added no new features beyond that so there was no need to publicly release it. If you were confused about why the internet has v12 and your cart says its v13 it would have probably been a good idea to come here and ask before flashing an older OS. I am sure KRIKzz has a copy of v13 he can e-mail you. Just to be clear the Super EverDrive is not like the ED64 and the MegaED. Its firmware and OS are separate files and the firmware must be loaded with a USB Blaster using the Quartus II software. There has been no new firmware released for the SuperED since it came out.
Yes yes i know its stupid haha. But I've had past experiences with misnumbered versions of things before, namely hombrew on other systems and pc applications. Also, i'm just the kind of person who likes to experiment anyway if i know i have backup, so when i saw there was a reserve os i did it lol. Thanks for the reply though, hopefully krikzz will see this and send it to childofbodom1297@hotmail.com. I'd also recommend he put it up for those who need to upgrade or did something like this, then again people aren't me :topsy_turvy:
V13 is temporary version. this version can work only on those carts where it was preinstalled. check your email
I received my SuperEverdrive today, and i have the same v13 version, is there anything special about this?? should i downgrade ?? there is a upgrade ?? sorry about this anoying question just want to be sure i dont mess anything
no! do not downgrade the OS! did you read what rishooty wrote here? he downgrade the OS and cart stop working. remember one simple rule about everdrive: OS downgrade = problems. only upgrade your os if more heigh version of OS available, if not, then leave all as is
Thanx for info Krikzz, i was confused because at webpage you cant find the v13 version, but as you say, i will keep firmwares forward. Many thanx for your support, we all know you are a very busy guy, we really appreciat it
