Well thats atleast what they are claiming.

    http://www.cherryos.com/

For the sake of time here is a quote from another site thats going to review it.

Aparently there is also going to be a version released shorty after the initial release that will alow your PC to boot directly into OSX without the need to load ontop of Windows. Now this is whats got me interested :smt045

You don't need windows to run it? I wonder then how he's gonna write drivers for every PC video chip, sound card, file system etc.

Looks to me like some just optimised PearPC and is now selling it. PearPC probably uses OpenGL API and Windows sound API, so its not like theres much to implement.

  5. Hmm, I wonder if it works prior to OSX? I've not got an OSX cd, but I do have some old System 7 floppies, and you'd think even a PIII 833 could emulate a 68040 at proper speed... :smt043 Ah, Adobe Photoship 3.0, here I come...

That said, on the website it mentions the possibility of a trial edition when the program is released - I'm probably correct in assuming that you'll STILL have to buy OSX to try it, ne? :smt009

Of course :) BTW, there are plenty of other 68K Mac emulators.

  7. Yeah, I know of a few, but it seems like the good ones all cost something.

Nothing burns me like an emulator you have to pay for, unless it's super good quality and comes in a retail box. Game emulators, no way *cough*MagicEngine*cough*. Let's hear it for playing my very legit PC Engine CD collection in 4-minute intervals... :angry

Guess you'll have to shell for a PCE CD system :) I think Magic Engine is actually one of the best emulators out there, I'm guaranteed to be excited for at least a day when ME 1.0 is released.

Its funny now that people are charging money for the best FREE emulators. If this CherryOS thing is actually PearPC I'll die. The whole thing reminds me of Amiathlon, the "Amiga OS for PC" which turned out actually to be a legal release of system ROMs and the GPL'd WinUAE emulator.

  9. Well yeah, I will eventually get a Super CDROM 2 to compliment the SuperGrafx en route from Yakumo, but for now... And I think Magic Engine is a very good program as well, it certainly emulates my PC CDROM games just fine. I just have a hard time justifying supporting something that is designed first and foremost to run pirated roms..
