this prototype from 2001 looks incredible !! what do you think about this lost piece of gaming history? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Em4CRj68Esw and here is the official website from him: francksauer.com and go to gog.com and buy the original game to help the developers to make outcast 2 possible! You've probably heard of it, Outcast is back in the hands of its creators. If you want to support us by purchasing the game, our friends at GOG and GamersGate have it ready for you. It's cheap and DRM-free !
Thanks for the heads up. Here's hoping someone will revive the franchise - or maybe even just rerelease the original (the unofficial hires patch still has some limits and problems afaik). Make sure not to miss the 'wip materials' video on Franck's site, people! You can see how little detail there was in those parts of the scenery that weren't focused on in the demo videos... I mean, it's pretty obvious they couldn't keep up with the level of detail from the cabin scene throughout a whole level (not to mention the whole game), unless they wanted to limit the level size to just a handful of rooms each. But hey, it's just a sales pitch demo and it looks excellent for what it is. The video also has a lot of level flythroughs, with a more realistic amount of detail. The lighting is off (it's rendered in Maya, not on the PS2), but it's great looking nevertheless. Btw, is it just me, or do the dropship and especially the jeep look a lot like a Pelican and a Warthog?
Still remember the original very well (all the hype from the announcement and all the mixed reviews -- Some frowned upon the voxel graphics, others loved it, some hated the overall visual style and others were completely in love with the graphics). Was a bumpy ride, but in overall a good one! Always been a bit sad over the sequel never coming out, and totally cool to see footage of it. It's pretty obvious that a lot of the stuff you see in that footage would have to be cut down as soon as you populate the game world with more elements, and that they'd probably utilize different models for the same characters based on context and such too. Still, good to see it's all back in the hands of the original creators and more might be on the way!
