Over $400 for a cardboard box? Yeah when it's a Cave cardboard box!

Damn, the most i've spent for a plain cardboard box was like $50 for a Steel Battalion shipping box (although it came with other stuff, that's the price I had worked out in my head for it). Congrats to the winner?

It did have all inserts, pollys and manuals like, woo!

Unbelievable ! That's all I can say. By the way, I've got something super rare going up on Yahoo soon. There was one on last week (May still be there) for a stupid amount of money. I'll put mine up at half and still be making x90 what I paid

This is the kind of moment when someone needs to slap the buyer upside the head and ask them what the heck they are doing with their life.

Like people on this site haven't made crazier purchases.

It has Guwange printed on the outside and DoDonPachi Dai ou Jou handwritten. It was probably used to ship those games.

    From Kotaku:

This isn't just any old cardboard box, but a Cave cardboard box which has Cave's Muromachi era shooter Guwange written on the outside. It also has DoDonPachi Dai Ou Jou handwritten on it as well. Meaning? This cardboard box was used to send out a Guwange arcade board in 1999 and then presumably a DoDonPachi Dai Ou Jou one in 2002.

I would argue that no one here has made as stupid a purchase as a $400 small cardboard box and posted about it here.

I don't recall ever seeing anything this insane purchased on these boards.

On a side note. Wouldn't it be rather easy to reproduce items like this for an insane profit margin? Not that I would ever do such a thing, but it's a little hard to prove the authenticity of a cardboard box.

Oh what's the difference if it's $400 for a rare cardboard box or $400 for some rare unfinished game. Both only have value to collectors, what's the Chubby Cherub box worth right now? Any average person would rather have a regular cardboard box for $1, just like any average person would rather have a finished game for $20.

    Maybe it's a little crazy :)

My PS2 came without the box. For some time i thought if buying one to make it complete was worth it. You can get them between 10 and 15 bucks down here.

In the end i complete gave up that idea. Then when i got some used game at HappyBoyGames some time ago, i asked about if they had any empty PS2 boxes, and they said yes. And gave me one for free.

I think there is quite a big difference in paying a relatively smallish amount of money for rare coding that is usable in some way shape or form and has had countless hundreds of hours of production put into it and buying a generic cardboard box that has a few characters and the cave sumbol stamped on it in ink.

This would be like me selling you a razor scooter for $500,000 and claiming that it is no different than buying a classic and rare car simply because they are both ludicrously priced.

When I bought my dummy 360 unit a while ago, it came in it`s delivery box with XENON on it......so I would have probably paid more than treble the £5.50 I paid for the dummy unit on it`s own

But this is insane money, but anything is only worth what someone will pay for it if it is ever offered for sale

Wrong translation, the auction contains in fact 2 boxes, a Guwange AND a DDP DOJ one.
And after seeing a complete boxed Guwange going for like 150'000yen, it's not even as unreasonable as it seems to buy 2 empty Cave-boxes including a Guwange one for 45'000 as you can get the whole Guwange PCB w/flyers for only another 40-50'000.
As Guwange's original shipping box is definately the rarest of all CAVE carton boxes, I can only congratulate the winner (sven666?) to his "bargain" :)

So, who wants to print up some "replica" Metal Gear cardboard boxes?
