ok, so i have this 2 yo pavilion 751n, it has a p4 1.8 processor, but i have seen on the net that there are different versions of that processor, mine sais this on the processor "1.8 GHZ/256/400/1.75 and on the slot socket and chip there are 2 squares that dont contain any pins, so i think is a 478, but i am not sure. Also, does anyone here can anyone here tell me to what speed i can overclock this bad boy?
It looks like socket 423 which is much older and not a friendly overclocker. Plus you'll most likely can't overclock it since its a brand PC, an HP Pavilion. The stuff inside it isn't made to be overclocked, I doubt the BIOS will have those options too.
i am going to buy a new motherboard that allows overclocking, cant it even be overclokc a little? edit: is a 478, i looked a little on ebay and found this: 423 478 and mine looks like this, even has that costa rica thing, the exact thing. so if i get a new motherboard, is it overclocable?
With mad skills anything is possible. Your CPU is definately overclockable, but not in the good way. I think all CPUs after '99 have their multiplier locked. So if you don't have those mad skills and want to OC, you'll just have to live with a "OC" via your FSB. In turn, you'll need RAM and peripherals that support the faster speed.

If you're sure it's a socket 478 (check that code before "Costa Rica" - that's the most important thing to look for with Intel CPUs, and there's tables for looking these up on their website), it could be possible that you could use a much faster processor on that motherboard - possibly even up to 3.2GHz! You can probably get ones second hand pretty cheap now. SiSoftware's Sandra should be able to tell you what your CPU is and what your motherboard can take regarding overclocking or the fastest CPUs it's made for. Get it at http://www.sisoftware.net/
Knowing Pentium 4s and how hot they get, you'll need a new case with great airflow design with high CFM/RPM fans and a copper heatsink with a high powered fan OR set up a watercooling kit so that you can keep your OC stable. Get this motherboard: Asus P4P800 Deluxe
