jo jo sorry, couldn´t resist jo = yes in at least 6 languages, one of them being Low German (better known to some as plattdeutsch), and I know that in at least 6 languages has another word for yes. And that is the word "ja".
i overclocked a n64. it does help in some games with slow down...some. but depending on the game it might also speed up ingame timers, clocks, gameplay and cut scenes. the n64 i overclocked eventually died, it was my fault, it over heated...i should have replaced the heatsink or added a fan or something.
Micjohvan, i tink you remember the worst lag of all in the Goldeneye and Perfect Dark multiplayer: grenades that smoke My overclocked N64, which died now btw, was able to handle this without lagging, multiplayer was a whole new experience, since it rant fluently but the overclocked cpu can also ruin your game in sp mode, like that guy above me just said
I have a plan to deal with this. I plan to hack out the stock heatsink and implament my own cooling setup which will consist of 4 fans (2 on each side, 1 set in, 1 set out) then a large heat sink on the CPU with maybe a smaller fan mounted on it. I have some extra sinks from busted graphics cards so that may work. Anyway I would like to install a switch that can be used to switch between stock speed, 2x, and 3x speeds on the side of the 64. That way I can kick it up for mulitplayer. Do you guys think this will work, and what would happen if it were switched during the 64 being powered on? Thanks for the help btw!
I installed a switch real quick when I did this mod. The worst thing that happened when I used it during gameplay was that the N64 crashed. Power off. Power On. No visual damage So the risk is low, as long as you don't do it a lot.... Nice to know that liquitt has got 3x to work. I havn't: http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=160773&postcount=16 CF
You could always use your PC and Project 64, set the "counter factor" down from 2 to 1, and get 4 controllers (like adaptoids). It will run smooth as can be then. Really, Goldeneye and Perfect Dark are the only games that overclocking would be worth it, and you knock it down to just Perfect Dark if you want just multiplayer.
I have 2 clear 64's I plan to try this on one of them but can anyone tell me what to look for to make sure I can get a multiplier of 3x out of it. I have heard that any board with a 2000 manufactor date or later will do it just fine but I want to make sure. I plan to only use the OC for multiplayer Perfect Dark and GoldenEye as those were the shit back in the day. We have been getting togather on weekend nights for almost 10 years now and before the Xbox the N64 was king. Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Smash Bros, Rush.... all great games and I think it would be awsome to set one up again and play it. However after playing newer games for so long I cant really deal with the lag I dont mind the graphics but slowdown just annoys the crap outta me -_-
Hack out? Geez, I have images of you attacking it with a chisel!!! It should come out pretty easily, ya know hehe
