Does anyone know of a good place to buy replacement clock capacitors for the oXbox? I figure I'd order a few just to have around. I know it's not required for most of the revisions to boot, but I'd like to have the opportunity to replace them with working caps if at all possible. What exact uf / voltage do I need to get? If I could get a link to some, that would be great. Thanks!
Mouser has these supercaps, the one on the 1.6 is a 1F/2.5V part, I believe. Of course there is no real benefit at all in replacing these when it will keep the clock for less than a day.
Uhh, the 1.6 needs the capacitor to boot, IIRC. That's quite a benefit. I believe their caps were better, though. http://assemblergames.com/l/threads...d-its-clock-capacitor-removed-replaced.57809/
Ah, right - I was thinking of the pre-1.6 machines, but only had the value for the 1.6 in mind. From a quick search it's the same for these old Aerogel caps, though.

Even with a pre-1.6, if you replaced the cap, it'll work again. Remove it and the clock will reset when you turn it off.
Yeah, but even with a new cap in place it won't last long at all unplugged, so personally I'd avoid the hassle of buying these supercaps (for pre-1.6 units, anyway). An alternative method for setting up the time/date is mentioned here: http://assemblergames.com/l/threads/original-xbox-fail-clock-capacitor-replacement.52952/
Is it necessary to replace the cap on the 1.6? I've got a franken model Halo CE Xbox and a Black 1.6... I've also got both soft modded... So if theres a SW work around so I can just clip the 1.6 off and not have to replace it that'd be nice.
