Ahh I play on a couch/bed so the arm rest thing doesn't work for me. However my sticks don't move around at all just because of the weight of these things

They just sit comfortably on my/my friends lap. The only controller I ever had bounce around was the plastic taiko drum master thing I picked up aeons ago. You beat it with sticks and it weighs nothing so I'm guessing they didn't field test it extensively before releasing it.

*edit* oops I already posted a picture of them. Oh well

I am curious though. Why'd you decide to go with a bat top?

I kinda prefer bat-tops for Street Fighter that's how the original arcade was. It's a standard JLF so I can keep my options open, I have a spare pink ball-top as well, easily swappable if I change my mind

That worked out really well, although the connection looks more cumbersome than you'd want. I know you well enough now to expect you to continue refining and working on stuff.

Even the work on the MDF was pretty good

You should get an injection molding kit. Wasn't there someone on here making a portable console case using an injection kit?

** If Retro is reading this (I know you will at some point) take a look at 8Bitplus' NeoGeo stick, now THAT is what I would want in terms of a Supergun, something with that sort of size and finish!

Nice work on all this stuff!

I think if anything I might make the lead longer, but aye, unlikely to leave it alone

Been a while since I added to this so here's a wee thing for ye... Not strictly a padhack this one, but a lot of the same elements involved.

I’ve been working on this stick today, it came with a supergun I bought off ebay. It’s a Megadrive compatible 3-button affair with rapid fire and the crappy start button slo-mo.
It’s a bit old and worse for wear generally in need of some TLC.

Some of the buttons were a bit skittish, not always engaging. Cracking it open revealed some of the contacts were covered in gunk and some of the wiring had frayed at the solder points

My plan was to add some 24mm Sanwa buttons I’ve had kicking around spare from a used job lot. I’ve fancied making a mini stick with these since I got them, and this is the perfect opportunity.

First things first though, lets give that rusty old shaft a good buffing, and a nice new ball

Now on to the PCB. It’s joypad-style with conductive rubber pads under the buttons.

I’m not replacing the start/select? Buttons or the LED array, so this meant in order to fit the Sanwas I needed to cut some holes in the board to accommodate the deep barrels, at the same time widening the buttonholes by a few millimeters.

So onto the bench drill it goes.

I have a good quality Bosch Cobalt holesaw set I use in the bench drill for these jobs. They were NOT cheap ...

    http://www.screwfix.com/prods/45172/Drill-Bits/Holesaws/Sets/Bosch-Holesaw-Kit-8-Pc

...but worth every penny, I’ve had a ton of use out of them.

Time to tackle the wiring. Drilling holes in the PCB means trace repairs, so time to bust out the Kynar wire I recently discovered. I can’t stress how terrific it is for working on PCBs

I added crimp terminals for the buttons, just for ease removal should anything go wrong.

Time to put everything together and with the buttons in place…

And that’s it, all that’s left is to put the Joystick back on and screw in the base

It lives! No wiring errors, although I painstakingly checked every one. Probably not the most time-effctive way of modding a stick, but it worked for me!

Very nice! (^) That stick looks short. Is it really?

I've been looking for a sacrificial stick for my upcoming MVS... I'm about to just break down and squeeze out a custom box. Surely SOMEWHERE around here is some old busted stick waiting to be modded?

    Thanks alecjahn!

The stick looks about average height to me, In the first pic I had already removed the actuator, so there was nothing holding it up, here's another angle shot of the finished hack:

very nice mods. I have though maybe trying to find some broken agetech sticks since it has the smallest easiest board to work with. I have experimented modding my hori ex 2 stick but it's such a pain to mod the way it's put together.

I had the ex2 in mind while I was doing that mod, it's a similar construction.

The Agetech is one of my favourites, the only downside is that 30mm buttons don't fit same as the ex2 - you have to widen the holes first.

When I modded my agetech it was before I had my bench drill etc. It was a real pain in the arse using a rotary tool and grinder bit on that steel top plate.

I didn't know the holes on the agetech stick have to be widen. Eventually I will put a new stick on my agetech since it has gotten loose. I just like how it's made cause it's so straight forward when it comes to modding since it has one tiny pcb with the wires going to each button similar to how arcade buttons are done.

    Thanks undamned!

Definitely the best thing about the agetech is the PCB, it's lag free too unlike the official pads.
