Okay, well I'm hating my life at the moment, just got home not too long ago after getting all four of my wisdom teeth cut out at the same time..

It hurts like hell, but I've gotten feeling back to the parts that were numb, so I'm relieved there isn't any nerve damage.

I'm also a smoker, so these next few days without my precious menthols is going to drive me nuts. I also know smoking is bad for me anyways, but it kind of lets me chill out and calm my nerves a bit.

Well, I'm going to lay down now and try to ignore the pain, listen to the dubstep or something.. Hopefully this hydrocodone will do the trick in taking the edge off of the pain.

Can't say I can relate, had mine pulled a few years back. No swelling, no pain and I was eating solid food a few hours later. The oral surgeon gave me Vicodin and Percocet for some reason which was nice as Vicodin barely works on me but makes me plenty nauseous when it wears off. Percocet free.

I think my experience was due to only have one molar impacted.

    Ice
Put ice in two plastic bags and put the plastic bags on your cheeks.

keeps the flaps of your gums clean and don't worry if the stitching breaks. Eat only soups I had a crunchy taco right after I had mine done and blood got all on my taco and not to mention it hurt like hell.

Had my teeth removed some years ago. The four at the same time too.
No pain at all. But I was eating only liquid food for something like 3 days, and putting ice everytime, like cyberguile said.
I hope you do get a fast recovery and stop the pain.

I couldn't recommend this enough. My sister had a really bad case of pericoronitis even after she thought that she cleaned under the gum flap well. But the bacteria still managed to start a problem down there and she could hardly eat anything or even close her mouth. Sleep was also virtually impossible. I never got wisdom teeth so don't have any experience first-hand, but she tells me that it was the worst experience ever.

Don't lay down, make sure your head is always straight up, that includes when you go to bed for at least the first night if not the second also. If you lay down there is a chance that the clots will come out and the sockets bleed again. Keep the sockets clean and after a couple days you may want to use the syringe your oral surgeon gave you to clean any food out. If he/she did not give you one, go back for one. Don't suck on straws (or anything for that matter) for a couple days.

This is all advice though, I take no responsibility if you follow it, just what I did and was recommended to me.

@you guys who had 'no pain'
What was the original situation like? There are different scenarios for wisdom teeth removals, one being that it's done because they won't come out. In that scenario a removal is necessary because it would corrupt the other teeth's positioning - but since they do not come out at all, surgery needs to be performed.
Then again, when surgery is optional, it's not any more trouble than the removal of any other tooth because they do not need to cut or anything.

In my case, the surgeon had to perform several cuts, crush the teeth and remove them. It was done one side after the other with a 2 week break inbetween. I also reveiced 6 local anesthesias in my oral cavity which caused a lot of pain on its own.

I had all four of mine taken out today, the top two were pulled from what I understand, but I'm sure they had to break them to pull them out.

They had to cut the bottom two out and stitch them, so yeah. I actually had woken up when they were removing my bottom right tooth, hurt like hell. If I was all there (still in and out from the sleeping stuff) I probably would have bit them >.>

My face feels like it's swelled 3 times than normal, and I look like a damn chipmunk. It pisses me off because I can't enjoy the food of the gods, crisps.

    Dear Pringles,

When I am able, I'm going to freaking devour you.

Note: My reasoning for them having to break the top ones to pull them was that they weren't out enough to get a good grip, I'm honestly surprised they didn't decide to cut them out.

Also, my bottom wisdom teeth were completely impacted, and according to the x-ray, they were sideways. Before they were cut out, they were causing a great deal of discomfort. I'm glad I have this done and over with those, I just can't wait till it's healed back up and I can use my mouth like I use to.

I had an extra tooth pulled awhile back, so that doesn't but me much. It's the bottom two that they had cut into to get the teeth out that are bugging me and causing most of the swelling.

I'll be a lot happier when I can smoke a cig, since I don't have the money for nicotine patches. Pain of top of craving nicotine is kind of made me a bit moody, and I'm losing patience with people asking me to repeat what I said.

It's got to the point that I just said screw it and used my cell phone to type out what I want to say and make them read it. It didn't help matters that my 7 year old brother fucking falcon punched me in the jaw near where the bottom left wisdom tooth was.. (Yes, I taught my brother the falcon punch.. In retrospect, bad idea)

Also, I'm really thankful for the replies and advice, means a lot. Even though I kind of made an ass out of myself when I said what I thought of the ED64. I apologize for my ignorance in some of the areas I was complaining about. (What I said was over at GBAtemp, and someone brought what I said to this board. If they had such a problem with what I said, a PM would have been completely fine, lol.)

My sister got her teeth out and I remember her screaming from the pain during the operation and the bleeding took ages to stop.

The pain should go away soon, try to distract yourself. Easier said than done, but try.

I had 3 of mine removed a few months ago... It was a horrible experience. While I didnt feel too much pain during the actual process, I was in pain the entire week afterwards. Nothing I took relieved the pain, Ice on the outside didnt help much either. All I could do was sleep, and when I was awake, I kept ice in my mouth at all times. I also got this really bad, bloody buildup on the side of my mouth that still goes unexplained.

I dont know if its just me or its normal, but my gums didnt really heal too well, theyre still very bumpy, and on on side feels kinda hard...

Good luck... I feel your pain, and I'm glad I got (most of) it taken care of.

I got mine removed because I didn't have room in my mouth for wisdom teeth.

Yeah, I didn't have room in my mouth for the wisdom teeth either.. Them coming down actually completely screwed up all the effort of me having braces when I was younger. Even though, I think me getting braces is what caused them to go sideways..

It's now day 2, just woke up in awful pain, 2 lortabs down the hatch, going to lay back down..

My dentist is a really old fellow. Also, we think he's my mother's ex from before she got married, but that's something else.

SO... I have perfect teeth. Always had, anyway. One day, my lower left molars were hurting like hell, and he said it was one of the wisdom teeth.

He just pulled the tooth out. He actually needed extra help pulling but yeah, it was just the anaesthetic shot, and the pulling the tooth out with that metal tool.

... and he pulled out the wrong tooth. I have my wisdom tooth still - but I have a gap between it and the next. I have another two wisdom teeth which have yet to give any trouble, though. (And the lower-right one never came out, but also it never hurt)

Weird thing is that it all stopped hurting almost immediately and I never again had any dental pain, so he might have been on to something.

Almost the same for me, except for the fact i removed the ones from the left first and then the ones from the right.

The top ones were exposed, so it was just a case of pulling them off. The lower ones gave a bit more work.

I can recommend what my doctor said: Keep your gums clean, put ice, and only "eat" liquid food for the first 3 or 4 days. He game me some pills for the first two days but i don't remember what i was now.

I had 6 taken out (yes, 6) and I couldn't even open my mouth to fit a spoon inside for 24hrs but after that it was fine. No real pain after the first 24hrs.

I had been reccomended mine be removed when I was 16/17 and waited until 21 as the wisdom teeth stayed hidden under the gums in the back. 3 of them were positioned as they should have been and the fourth was at an odd angle pretty much with the top surface of the tooth right up against the side of another molar. I decided that when one was finally erupting through the gum that it was time to remove them to prevent any sort of bacterial build up between it and the tooth next to it (the wisdom ramming the other molar specifically).

Went under general anesthesia and from what I was told they just popped out. I did get to keep them (morbid curiosity and hey they're my teeth) and the root is pretty much intact. I had to have no real cutting into my jaw/gums that I noticed just the usual sewn up holes.

The single thing that probably contributed to the above was that my jaw had plenty of room to hold all of my wisdom teeth without causing problems. The reason we remove them is typically because there isn't enough room from what I can recall.

Well, I can open and close my mouth normally (I probably could anyways, I was just too much of a chicken to try to because of the pain, I'm not good with oral pain at all), yay!!! I still have a little bit of discomfort, but nothing that Tylenol wont fix.

It's still annoying to attempt to eat chips, but I'm hoping I'll be able to enjoy their crunchy goodness within a week :D

The first solid food I ate in ages (Well, what seemed like ages..) was a doughnut, mainly because it was still soft, and poptarts were too hard.

I think I'm going to attempt to eat a broiled really tender steak today, gah I can taste it already.

Yeah, I took this advice, the stitching messed up a little the other day, but it didn't cause me any issues. Also, they stitched me up with dissolvable stitches.
