So I'm a 60Hz addict, but I only collect PAL Mega Drive games. Usually a cart will kick up a warning if it detects the wrong region, and sometimes if it detects 60Hz. Most of the time you can get past this by switching just after or during the game starts. Yeah the audio can be a little too fast sometimes but I don't really mind too much. Some carts however just refuse to go to 60Hz, Samurai Shodown is an example of this. Although these games have been "PAL Optimised" the difference between the PAL and NTSC version is still pretty obvious. They just go straight to a black screen when I hit the switch. What causes this? Is there anyway around it? Something on the cart perhaps that can be desoldered or modified? Granted I could just buy the import version but this isn't really economical for some of the rarer titles. I've done a few google searches but people just seem to live with it.
Hmm with streets of rage 2 I can boot it in PAL 50 or NTSC-J 60 but not NTSC-U or cross over (PAL 60/JP 50). Took a bit of fiddling but it is fullscreen 60hz on my PAL machine. Or am I missing the point?
I can't stand playing in 50 hertz too. Comix Zone and Alien Soldier doesn't run well in 60 hertz. My guess is that most of the blue label games that have been optimized for the PAL region won't work perfectly in 60 hertz.
