PAL Mega CD 2, odd chip

    I received a model II mega CD as payment for fixing a dreamcast for somebody, it all seems to run fine.
    Just for the sake of curiosity, I decided to crack it open and have a look and on the motherboard. I then spotted this.

    Is it anything interesting? because it doesn't look very stock

    didn't someone post about this last week??? yes it's a standard part, mine has one too.

    Same. Had to replace the fuse in my Sega CD II and i seen the same board. Long story short its manufacturer done.

    Ok Fair enough! Just thought the soldering looked a bit amateur to be factory done is all!

    Yes it is in early model 2's (from memory the service manual makes reference to it).

    D flip-flip and a NOT gate. Nothing major but without knowing what they connect to I've got no idea what they're for.

    I posted a picture of this too a while back. From what I was told it fixes a bug in one of the ASIC chips. Not sure what or how though.

    Is connected to PCM sound chip.
