PAL N64 game on NTSC unit??

Discussion in 'Rare and Obscure Gaming' started by Greatsaintlouis, Sep 3, 2004.

  1. I just got a shipment today from the venerable Antipasta which included a PAL copy of Rakuga Kids for the Nintendo 64. AS I expected, it does not boot when normally inserted into my NTSC machine (modded to physically accept NTSC/J carts) so I plugged it into my Gameshark and gave it a whirl. No go. I had always heard that the Gameshark could be used to play import games - am I missing something, or was the Gameshark only meant to play JAPANESE import games?

If this is the case, can anyone recommend (or offer for sale) a good N64 import convertor unit, one of the funky ones that requires about 27 cartridges to be plugged into it (plus 2 or 3 Gameboy carts) to run? Also, I'm assuming that this would display a PAL game correctly on my NTSC TV, am I right?

    Thanks!

I have a passport plus 3 convertor which seems to work perfectly for pal -> NTSC. It requires the cart you want to play, and a local cart on the back, and for some games it needs a password which will make it work

A bit of the hassle, But i've heard its pretty much 100% compatible

Its available from lik-sang, Cant remember how much for though.

  3. Yeah, it's something around $30 - it's the one I've heard works the best, I was just hoping I'd have some other alternative than ordering the thing, but I guess not...

Gah. PAL and I don't get along at all.

I converted my N64 to run all region games,I got the instructions from a german webpage ages and ages ago.It works but involved ripping a Pal 64 to peices to get it's security chips,so it would be cheaper just to buy and use a pal n64 anyway.

The passport 3 works for 98% of games so you should buy that .For a game like Rakugakids an earlier convertor such as the Gamesmaster may work, that would be a much, much cheaper option for you too.I am positive that gameshark can be used to play import stuff though mate with some codes inputed or some shit.

That new pic you have is really gay GSL mate, you're not trying to tell us something are you??? :smt043
