It says in the (PAL) Gamecube instruction booklet that you shouldn't use a gamecube RGB cable on an N64, so does the n64 output RGB at all, and if so why did nintendo bother changing the AV ports between the N64 and Gamecube so that the same cable couldn't be used?

The SNES also has the same cable ... (I think - been a long time since I owned 1)

Perhaps they changed pinouts? Or used previously inactive Pins on the newer systems.

Probably stuck with it because they had a mega cheap deal on manufactore for the connector seeing as they have used it for years.

  3. Nintendo removed RGB from the N64. It is possible to mod an NTSC/-J machine to output RGB, but not a PAL one, according to NFGman.

So the best picture you can get from a PAL unit is through S-VHS. Bah.

The answer- play Zelda OoT/MM on Gamecube ;)

Please Nintendo, please release some old N64 games in compilation packs for the GC. Damn, I want a hi-res version of the legendary Pilotwings 64. If you don't I'm of to purchase a BBA and PSo ;)

Pilotwings 64 in hi res would look absolutely dradful, the textures are too bland and basic for his res, they are designed for that resolution( the N64's lowest I believe) so that is why they look good on the Nintendo 64.

Trust me it would really spoil some people's opinion of the game. The game would look lovely on Nintendo DS, say it again, Nintendo Dseh, and again Nintendo DSeh :smt045 One more time Nintendo Dseh.

Playing the game with some sort of multiplayer frenzy would be nice and they could also have a net ranking system or ghosts to download from a server.

I still remember the way that you touched me.

Of course you could fix a PAL N64 to output a RGB signal !

There was some kind of RGB Kit from Double You - i think that there are still some available at www.wolfsoft.de
In France first released PAL N64 consoles had a RGB-chip onboard. You could simpy wire that like an US/Jap N64. That's N64 "Modell NUS-FRA 001".

You could also use a "Blaze ULTRA 64 RGB cable" for RGB output on a N64.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't all pal N64's output RGB, mine does, and is quite noticable, composite really adds even more grain to the picture.

No N64 console can output a RGB signal without the RGB mod.

The blaze cable simply converts an s video signal to RGB and I have heard the rgb kits do the same.

That could be wrng though, about the kits that is.The Blaze cable definetly does this as I hve used the innards to get an rgb like signal from my 3do.
You will notice the picture is very dull and dark with these cables , that is because the s vid signal loses it's colour vibrancy in the conversion.

    My knowledge is frightening sometimes

Picture quality of the Blaze RGB cable was rather crappy - not much better than FBAS. I sold 5 of these cables as GameCube was launched in the US - and got more than 100.- Euro for each.

I think that the Double You Kits where much better. www.wolfsoft.de is offering this mod and also adds a RGB cable with built in picture enhancer.
But that mod is so very expensive that you would go better in getting a RGB modded US-N64.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have the impression that, by law, consoles sold in France *must* use SCART... and RGB would be the most logical choice, in that case (though you can wire up CVBS/YC through scart as well).

No, regular PAL N64 consoles just put out FBAS and SVideo.
You'll get no RGB signal by simply plugging in a Scart cable.
