    Hello everyone!

For my birthday my wife gave me a Sega Mega Drive II from London. I thought my HD TV was compatible with the PAL standard, but only got a black screen and audio when connected with a composite A/V cable (from a NTSC Japanese Mega Drive 2).

I made the mod region (that of cutting a PCB track), now I hear the music of Sonic at normal speed (at 60Hz instead of 50Hz), but I still do not have picture. Also now reads the american exclusive region carts (like SFII CE).

Does anyone know any mod to make actual NTSC? I do not have a PAL compatible TV and want to use my console.

    Thanks and Regards

If you go to sega-16 and look up a thread in tech-aid called "single switch region mod" you will see I was helping a guy out (erewego). Follow where I said to lock the video encoder (the 2nd option I have there) permamently. Instead you will use the 3.58mhz 4 pin oscillator and pin 7 will be on +5v instead of ground. Hope this helps.

I'd suggest getting a Genesis from the US.

It seems wasteful to make the distinctive PAL system, become nothing more than yet another everyday American model.

Or you can just swap the master oscillator with the proper NTSC one.... It's a lot cleaner than hacking in another oscillator at the RGB encoder, you'll probably receive better video quality since two oscillators will be out of phase, and as a bonus you'll get the correct timing which will be 1% off with the PAL oscillator.
