yeah right, and how will he WITHOUT opening it? :stupid:
our being right has a higher percentage of being true mainly because we're all obsessed & well documented in hard & software. on the other side of the wall stands someone who claims he has something that none of us know of & has no info whatsoever on the web...

Tell the owner no one here cares. Its pretty certain to be fake at this point.

We are not buying it, we are helping YOU and you seem to want to ignore the advice.

Hey dude... I know that, I believe you. That's why I created this thread.
The owner just wanted some kind of proof of evidence, and that was what I (we) was trying to show him.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not ignoring your advice.
With that said, we conclude this is a fake product.
    Thank you all.

I don't know what's going on in the buyers mind but he removed his previous auction and updated it with a new price: € 219,99.
    LOL

    Hi.
Just registered on the forums to say that i have that same item (and no, i'm not the one selling it), just trying to bring some light into this.
I am also from Portugal and mine also has the Ecofilmes sticker. My guess is that the oficial distributor here sold some fake vga boxes as oficial products. As far as i know, sega never made that many vga boxes and Ecofilmes might have done it to satisfy the demand, or just make some easy money. Who knows...

I opened mine once (sorry for not taking pictures) to see what i could do about the audio being somewhat distorted. I can say that the pcb has a low quality finish, nothing like any SEGA hardware i have ever laid eyes on. It even has some wires going from one side of the pcb to the other. Not very professional.

It still gives some good quality image in VGA mode, and i will not try to chase a legit vga box just because this one might be a fake.
    Hope it was helpfull.

Yes! a def thanks are in order for your input. This is further indication that the official VGA Box only saw release in Japan.

Hi there, i also saw the auction on miau.pt, back in the day when i had my original dreamcast , i bought one of those VGA box, in carrefour in Vila nova de gaia, and as raspunsen says, i remember that i opened it, and had a very low quality of build, but it worked nonetheless, but at the time it was sold to me as an original Sega item.

And that is the major concern with this VGA box... that its being sold under the false pretense that its an official Sega product. This false piece of info eventually spreads throughout as people who originally bought it, sell it down the road to other.

    Hi all,

I also saw and talked to that guy, and he eventually sold this VGA Box for €90... After two years.

I also had one of these, and behold, this is how it looks internally:

    USMQaIp.jpg EZwjNzs.jpg

This is surely how it went, and is my bet too. Ecofilmes always sold 3rd-party accessories besides the official Sega stuff, and even placed them on supermarket shelves side-to-side with the official ones, so it wouldn't be difficult for them to arrange counterfeit products as they had the contacts.

If you think of it, even though the box looks legit (it even has Ecofilmes' - 4Play nowadays - sticker, so you know that it's a product distributed by the official licensed company) as it is an exact copy of the Japanese box but with the Dreamcast blue letters, PAL accessories boxes always came in 3 or 4 different languages. Add that to the bad English syntax, and you can see that it is a rough Japanese translation from the original box.

They must have gotten the VGA boxes from Asia, but there's no doubt that Ecofilmes sold this VGA Box as an official one, and nonetheless it works alright as I could confirm.
