I'm a huge laserdisc game fan going back to the 80s playing cobra command and others at my local arcade. I was looking up information on Aston Belt the other night when I came upon the msx pioneer laserdisc system that came out in Japan. It then brought me to assembler where I found a post of someone playing astron belt on the msx. I'm always lurking assembler, can't believe I had missed that post earlier.

I was stunned to see that a company actually came out with a laserdisc attachment to a home computer for playing games. Growing up in the US, the only news of home laserdisc games was the vaporware coleco Adam add on. I'm kinda glad I'm only finding out about this now as I probably would have obsessed for years about getting one and thankfully Daphne now emulates the games arcade perfect.

Does anyone have any particular memories of the system, like tv ads, how it was received in Japan etc? What was the laserdisc attachment for the mega cd, were there laserdisc animated games that came out for this system we didn't see with sega cd?

Yes. The same goes for the PC-Engine which received a small supply of LD-ROM^2 games. There weren't many of them, but they're quite valuable these days. Mega CD & LD-ROM used a different technique though, you had to buy either a PCE or MD pack for the Pioneer CLD A100 LD-player, that way the LD-player was upgraded with an implenented MD or PCE.

Coming back to your question: I was born too late to get in contact with Laserdisc when it was recent technology. All I know about it I had to look up afterwards, no memories involved here. Well, I used to own some LD movies at some point, but they were only collectibles as I never had an actual player to watch them >_<

I definitely will have to look further into the mega cd and its ld games. Don't feel to bad about missing the original arcade units. They were often out of order since those original pioneer players were so prone to breaking.

I just wish all of the ld games are emulated which they are not.
